Hi everyone! I am totally in the dark regardin step 3, I know I should just focus on step 1, but I have this thing where I want to have a plan, a very tighty plan, so I wanted to clarify some stuff about step 3.... I've found info on ecfmg, usmle.org about all the steps, but I can't seem to find the cost of step3, and I am confused about how do you apply, because I think you have to contact the board of the state in wich you want the license, but how do you know where to apply if you don't know were you are going to do the residency??? Then I read another post where they told someone that they can do the test in a different state that in wich they are applying but not sure if you can apply for Michigan if you want to do your residency in CA, for example??? AH!!!!!!!!!!!! I am driving myself crazy with so many questions!! I am confused, can someone explain this to me? THANK YOU!!

Yolanda, you should log onto the FSMB web site which clearly explains the regulations each state has in order to take step III. As an FMG, some states will not let you take the exam until you complete at least 3 years of your residency. Others will allow you to do so after only 1 year. My program makes it a requirement to have taken and passed it in less than 18 months after my start date. Others, like CT, will allow you to take the exam without any PG training. For now though, you should really focus on step I. There's a lot that can happen between it and step III. good luck
