Doctors from these 3 countries are looked upon favorably in comparison to other countries. Medicine in our countries are practised similiarly to the US. We can procure better residencies and hospitals if we do everything right. this includes: 1. Visa- permanent resident, or other valid visa(see ecfmg site). 2. completed medical school and have some clinical experience back home...the less years out of med. school the better. 3.strong LoRs from your country(professors etc) and a good deans letter. 4. usmle scores in the 90's...if you have step 3 done prior to applying then thats awesome. 5. ecfmg certificate prior to applying for residencies 6.california medical board letter prior to applying(if needed) 7.a well written personal statement...use 'medfools' if you need help in writing one. He is a US physician who helps you with your personal statement. 8. a well written CAF or CV. 9. publications/research and 'real' US experience...observerships are not real experience. 10.contacts...make them. 11.once you apply call back or email. 12 scramble is a game you don't want to play....odds are bad. Don't go to a specialty just because it is easy. if you apply for internal med/paeds, Ob/gyn,ER med/gen surgery you will get it, but if you have lined up everything you can end up in exactly what you want and where you want it. Please feel free to add on...
