happy reading? that can only occur 1% of the time. i want to watch becker, all the nba games, beautiful movies. i want to lie in bed with a good espionage novel ,,,,i want to do all sorts of things and certainly not study at 2am. so it cannot be happy reading for me.

keep on trucking serenity. i can see that all is well with you.

Hi everyone,
I have not yet received my Kaplan notes. But I have started reading a text book on Physiology of transmitters and autonomic neurology.Names of the transmitters and their multitude of receptors are too big for my gray matter to absorb in the first round. Need a booster dose in the near future. Some time it looks like pouring water on a duck.
grin. Serenity How is your micro poems.? I would like to have a copy of your collection of poems.Hope it will boost my immunity.
Good luck to every one in the forum. Keep up your good work.
We are on the right track, but remember do not just sit there because you will be run over. Keep moving .Failure is not an option in our case.

Hi everyone,
Its been a long time (2 months) since i posted here. There were some technical issues that needed to be resolved re my retaking this exam - the ecfmg needed some paperwork etc. All this introduced a doubt about my being able to take this exam at all and the result: I stopped studying! Add kids and summer vacation to this mix and you will get the picture) Now, everything has been settled and i have my permit and i am planning to take the exam in December. No procrastinations, no excuses! Sorry proctalgia (and thanks for checking on me!) about the poems- will work on them! I am starting my studies as if on a blank slate!! Let the games begin....

Hello,
This has been a disjointed journal so far- i decided not to post till i actually started making progress. The kids are back at school and i am in the local library making my first journal entry in so many weeks. No more procrastination- i am starting anew (for the last and final time) and i have started with the first kaplan dvd of pharmacology and the textbook is Katzung and Trevor's pharmacology. Have decided on my exam date, so time to get moving....nodnod

Hi, Made slow progress on the first chapter (prepare for a really really long journal, people grin). Stayed in the library till it was time to pick the kids up from school, then came home, supervised homework, fed them and now i am already beatraised eyebrow. My plan was to stay up tonight and formulate my thoughts on the first chapter/dvd, then move on to the next tomorrow but there is still dinner to supervise. Hopefully i won't fall asleep before the kidssticking out tongue

Hi everyone, back at the library today, still going on with the basic principles, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in pharmacology. hope to make better progress. I must say that all of us are just geting better with age!! I feel I really understand (though it may take more time sticking out tongue) what i am reading, hopefully i will retain better toowink

Hi, Its the library again today- had to run errands in the morning, so came to the library late. Have about 2-3 hours before i have to pick my kids up. I was reading some of the other journals and their progress is very inspiring. For now i dont have much obvious progress to report- i am still doing general pharmacology alongside the lecture dvds. I dont know how long i will take with each chapter. Maybe in a month i will also be reading at a faster pace (hey, i can dream!)nod

  #67

yes you can
and may your dreams come true

  #68

thanks cedrick!

Hey , you are doing great . Wish you best of luck.

I am also an old grad, stay at home mom of three . It is highly motivating to see other people in the same boat.

BTW when are you planning to take your test and how many kids do you have ??

We can do it girl nod

hi, thanks unique1 for your kind words! i have two kids, both boys under the age of 10. i was going to take the exam during the oct-dec eligibility period but will most likely extend it and take it beginning of next year. today, revised some of the basic principles, and started autonomic pharmacology too- i like this part of pharmacology better and am planning to do it alongside all those phamacokinetic math formulae and graphs.

Hi Serenity,

I am inspired by you.
I am an IMG, graduatd in 1994 and ECFMG certified in 1996. I tried to get in to the residency, but did not match because of my low scores. I gave up after trying for 3 years, took up a job in health care field and have been working for 6 years.
I received a letter from state board of Ca that my scores will not be valid after Oct, 2006. Is this letter good enough for ECFMG when I apply to retake the USMLE exams?
I appreciate your advice in this matter.

  #72

Hi Asi, I think if you mail a copy of the letter along with your usmle application and a letter explaining why you have to retake the exam, you should get permission from the ecfmg - that is what i did. I had a letter that stated that the GA medical board would not consider my older scores valid anymore. Hope that helps and good luck!! nod

  #73

Hi Serenity,
Thank you for your response. I am planning to give step 2 first. Do you see any advantages in giving step 1 first?

  #74

Hi,
Continuing my progress through the first 2 sections of Katzung and Trevor- sometimes everything is a lot more clear the second time around!nod
Asi, i have been away from my books for a long time, so starting with the basics makes it easier for me to grasp, whcih is why i am starting with Step 1.
Okay, happy reading everybody!!

  #75

Read the first few chapters of Katzung and Trevor- i will need a few more readings before everything falls into place (and stays in place too..grin) I went to the Pharmacology forum in search of questions relating to basic principles of pharamacology to help me start thinking actively about what i read instead of just digesting passively.
I was reading some of the other journals and i realised that each of us has so much to offer in terms of support and advice for one another. Good luck and cheers to all of you...nod
