4mymd, i think all of us are amazing that we are willing to work hard and ace this exam! I started with CVS embryo last night. This is my first read, so my goal is to get familiar with the material. I am giving myself 1 week to finish CVS complete (anat, physio, patho, histo, embryo, pharmac, micro etc) organ system review. I dont know if I should be doing it faster- maybe i should- but i want to be thorough, make notes and be able to clinically correlate what i am reading. Its been 10 years after all . I am sure there will be days that i am going to stress out, snap at my kids and whine but right now it feels good. We tend to forget sometimes that kids are not kids forever and every minute spent with them is precious. My son is having his friends over today and they are kicking up a racket . I have made a new resolution- i am going to study hard but at the same time i am not going to grudge the time spent with my kids.

Hi, persevering with CVS anatomy. Couldnt really do much since my son is down with the flu and needs my care. I had planned to stay up and read but i am so exhausted that i dont think it will serve any purpose reading now. i am hoping he will be better tomorrow because i am not used to seeing my baby sit in one place and not even have the energy for any mischief! Hope to be back on course tomorrow.....

Continuing my CVS organ system review- i have to be done with CVS by Sunday. My younger son is really sick, so i have to take him to the pediatrician. My older son is also home and between fixing meals, running errands and taking care of the kids, i am not able to read more than a few pages per day. When i do sit down, i am so tired that i am not able to acomplish much. Things should return to normal next week once they both go back to school and i can put in at least 6 hours of uninterrupted study but until then, dear diary, i will be crawling at a snail's pace! Is there anyone here who has 2 kids or more? It will be great to compare strategies . And with summer just around the corner it is a real worry.

Hi Serenity, I have 3 kids and I agree: it is not easy to find time for study - but keep going on! Your future is in your own hands, and you surely can pass exams. For me two things were important: realistic schedule (not to feel guilty and demotivated that I can't catch up with the plan) and long-term run: if I have been waiting for 10+ years, why hurry up now? NMRP'2007 sounds really nice, but I want to be really good in physiology etc. to get best possible score, and I passed my physio exam 15 years ago . So I made schedule which is elastic (I review it every 2-3 weeks, as some topics are new and difficult for me and they take more time than I expected) - and I force myself to follow this schedule. Don't worry too much, your work with kids is surely great and they will be your advantage in future: you will have family support Best regards

Hi Bartek, Thanks for the encouraging words. I feel better today. You are right, we have to be realistic in terms of the time we can commit. My husband is a sweetie and very supportive and i am sure it will be fine I ordered audio and dvds yesterday to better help me concentrate.

Didn't do much today- when i read about all you guys at this forum studying so hard and finishing chapters, i feel terrible! I am going at the pace of a few pages each day- nothing to post about!! But i sincerely hope that once all my study materials are assembled and i have my routine back in place, my studying will pick up. I still want to make an entry in my online journal each day becoz i want to remind myself of the goals i have set for myself and that time is ticking away.So dear diary, be patient, the best is yet to come, (i hope)

never mind what others are doing. just keep your own rhythm. am sure you are 'unlucky' to read thro teh good days of others cos you probably did not notice i did not write anything in my journal for almost a week which was also a time i could not study!!! i was just depressed for all sorts of reasons. now i feel so good. well maybe just a little female hormones wreaking havoc in my body???? so be encouraged. some days are bad and some days are good. teh important thing is for us all to reach our goals.

Hi serenity, I was reading your posts, well, first of all, good luck, you are on your way to finishing this ridiculously long, hard, but doable process!, so hang in there. Are you planning to match in 2007 or 2008?

Did more of bacteriology today. My younger son is running a fever. Dear God! we just finished a 2 week long episode of all us having the flu. But it seems like they have an endless supply of germs at school when one is done, the kids come down with another one. Was able to study today but don't know about tomorrow, will have to watch my baby and make sure he is okay to go to school. otherwise i will keep him at home. I am making slower progress than a snail

hi tolito, yes we are on mvt's, but seems like the bugs are finding everyone in the neighborhood but the good news is it was a short-lived episode and its back to the books today. Here is something I made up to bring a smile , You will be sorry That you ever got in TOUCH with me! Be careful if you have had SURGERY, Or ate SPOILT MEAT and PASTRY (POTATO SALAD TOO!) Because you will definitely be hearing from me!! Or I will be crawling all over your SCIN* I will take you apart And reach into your heart** They say I am so positive*** They don't have long to live, Once they have got in touch with me!!" Mode of transmission- touch/surgery, contaminated food. * Predisposing conditions for staph aureus infection- SCIN- Surgery, Chronic granulomatous disease, cystic fibrosis, IV drug users, severe neutropenia. Also remember, that iv drug users have more s. aureus on their skin than s. epidermidis ** S. aureus is the leading cause of infective endocarditis in iv drug users *** S. aureus is Gram-positive, catalase and coagulase positive and mannitol- salt positive.
