hi, i'm a 4th year med student in pakistan. i've already started prep for step 1 on the side. i'm really interested in getting into a neurosurgery residency in the us after graduation. can anyone tell me what i need besides fantastic usmle step 1 and 2 scores (i'm assuming 96 is the minimum) to get into a residency program? and if i do research here in pakistan will that help me or no? wat abt community work or something?

I think I know something about this, first get your scores, you right are 90s. Don't come here without USMLE exams passed. Don't do reseaech in Pakistan do it here in the states. Neurosurgery, It is very difficult to get even in this optimal circunstances, it is not impossible take a look at UCLA resident roster you will find an IMG there, email him. You have to be the best of the best to get an interview even in the worst program.Come and see for yourself but don;t come here without USMLE passed, especially top scores. The average american candidate has top scores and a original paper published before applying. Are there good example of IMG getting it, very small percentage but if you want to do it. impossible nothing. programs that I know have a IMG now. UCLA,NY, there maybe others. PASS YOUR BOARDS AND GET HERE TO TAKE YOUR CHANCES. GOOD LUCK.
