I am an old foreign graduate (7year). I passed step1, 2CK with scores 87/96. Do u think I can match for university program of Neurology? any chance for me? I almost give up because I have poor step1 score consider IMG status.

to eneter a neurology program you need a preliminary year in internal med... this can be one way of getting your residency, ie trying another door. apply for prelim years over the board..you have good marks to get a prelim year. once you get the year, complete it and you have an acgme accredited year under your hand then apply for neurology programs. you will have a gap between your prelim year and neurology residency. what you should do is apply for research positions(everyone needs research assistants) in areas of neurology. then when you interview you will have all your scores plus your acgme year and then in the interview if the ask which they will 'what will you do in the year between intern year and residency say you have procurred a one year research assistant position at....in an area of neurology. note you will also have step 3 in your hand as well as you have to complete it in your intern year. you will be a perfect catch for them. refine your interview skills, have all your documents and licenses etc... you will be a ready made resident to be with a bit of research experience... you will get it!

Thanks ausdoc. Actually, I plan to match an integrated program. By this way, I will not have a gap between intern year and residency. I will try my best in 2007.
