After 13 hrs fasting this man will be catabolizing fats as energy source having used up a lot (most) of his carbohydrate store. Lipase is activated to break down TGs in the tissues prior to hepatic catabolism. ACoA carboxylase is involved with the beta oxidation of fats. Odd chain fatty acids are catabolised via propionyl, Prop CoA carboxylase works on this. Palmitoyl synthetase acts to build up fatty acids not break them down. Corrcet answer is C

In fact, ACoA carboxylase is involved with the conversion of excessive carbohydrate into fatty acids not with the oxidation of fatty acids. The question asks which is the LEAST INACTIVE (i.e. the most active). ACoA carboxylase will be inactive since there'll be no excessive carbo after 13 hrs fasting. Propionyl CoA is involved in odd chain oxidation so will be active. Palmitoyl synthetase does indeed build up fatty acids so will NOT be active in this patient since he needs to break down fats for energy. Hormone sensitive lipase is involved in fat catabolism but is activated only after excessive exercise, starvation etc so will be INACTIVE in this patient since he hasn't been fasting long enough. So correct answer is B. Note to self: READ THE QUESTION!
