Hello:

I just did an observership in a well known hospital but couldn't obtain a LOR. I spend 4 weeks been ther allways on time and tryied to participate in everything, so certainly don't know what I did wrong. I'm planning to give another shot in other hospital but like to know if there is anything you can do to try to secure the desired LOR. You know, planning such trip means lots of $$$ and time so must try to succed this time.

Thanks guys!!.

Ask the staff physician that you rounded with. Give them a copy of your CV - remind the doc who you are, etc.

Can't hurt to ask a second time. And then asky why not.

Thanks for letting us know abt ur incident!

Were u not able to enquire, abt acquiring an LOR, before joining the observership? If not an LOR, wud atleast a certificate mentioning ur position as an observer for that period be of some value??

Hope u get some luck with this situation.

Thanks for your answers. Yes, I obteined a certificate of observer, but as u all know that means no big deal (better than nothing though, but very little indeed). I asked for the letter several times, even after returning home. The doc was nice all the time, and said yes to the letter. He even introduced me to the program director and gave good references of me. The thing is that the letter never came (despite my emails), and the program director asked to spend a few more weeks rotating with him before considering my application.

Now, that doesn't sound THAT bad at all, right? The bad things are that no LOR means that my application is still incomplete (and was the main reason to go there), and that I have to invest in another observership to have a chance in only that hospital... I know... NO PAYING NO GAIN, but $ is starting to become a limitant to my objectives and one whole observership just to have some advantage in only 1 program is way too expensive.

Thanks again, and take care!
