something wrong with my previous message, i am writing it again... suppose u r matched with h1b, why can u not be granted for gc application after 3 years of residency? gathering from unverified resources, the only way to get gc on h1 is to look for private-funded hospital who will sponsor u for gc b4 your h1 expires. this raises some other questions.. 1. can h1 be extended for another 6 years if your fellowship or residency is short of completion (i.e radiology or other discipline that may require beyond 6 years?)

truly appreciate your generous insights.. thanks

True - you need to find a sponsor for your green card - it's not a guarantee after getting an H1b visa. I've had many residents on H visas who had to leave the country as they couldn't find a sponsor. Residents on J1 visas have been having no trouble recently.
