Hello, I've always gotten great help in this page, hope anyone can advice me on what would be the best course to take, my situation is the following: I finally decided to take step 1, unfortunately I know that ERAS opens in September 1, and in order to get a better chance to get an interview, sharvil, another member told me that it is better to have many results as possible by september 1. In my case this is definitely impossible, it is March, and I would only have 4 months to study in order for me to apply in late July for step 1 and have my step 1 score ready for September 1. I know scores are important so if I study for 6 months and take step 1 in late September I would have my score by late October, so my question is....should I do this and apply for a residency until late October to match in 2007, or should I realize that I am not going to have sufficient time to match in 2007, and I should aim for 2008 match?? I thank you in advance for your help! Yolanda

i guess you are an IMG (like me. The outlook is even worse if you need a visa). For IMGs like us weīve got to have our complete application as soon as possible. If you get a really good step 1 score you could apply only with that (continuing studying and passing the rest of steps, 1st step 2CS and then step 2CK because 2CS lasts more time to get your result) and get something in the match. But if you donīt get a good score, itīs gonna be very hard. So, maybe your choice would be to do your step 1 and see which score you get, maybe all will depend on that for this year. Wait for the opinions of others to get a better idea.

Thank you for your opinion Chemamr, yes I am a IMG and I will need a Visa, I guess that either way I will start studying and as you say wait and see my score and decide from there. Anyone else?, thanks Yolanda

it all depends on how much you think you need to study to get a 90+, if that is what you are looking for. i matched for 2006... I did step 2ck in sugust 2005 then step 1 in oct 2005 step 2cs in nov 2005. i received my ecfmg certificate in january 2006. i am currently craming for step 3 so i don't have to work and study. depending on the programs you are applying for the deadlines will vary. step 1 i did in 8 weeks...staying upto 3am on average, step 2ck i did in 10weeks again staying up to 3am (i actually took a vacation 3 weeks prior to it). step 2cs took 10days i just did a 5 day kaplan course and that is all you need to know. all i can say is study effectively and don't study all these hundredds of books, the q review from kaplans is good and the lecture notes from kaplans is enough with a couple of revi books. just do questions and questions from the qbank. I got all 90+'s for my exams using this technique. see how you go... just make sure you do not fail...it gives programs another reason to reject you. g/l
