why does niacin cause vasodilation. Does any one know the mechanism of this effect??

yes, vasodilation caused by Niacin is prostaglandin mediated!

Therefore, vasodilation can be prevented with ASPIRIN or NSAIDs

NIACIN (UW notes)

Indication: Dyslipidemiawith Low HDL

Major Toxicity: 1.- Cutaneous Vasodilation

2.-Hyperglycemia (with Acanthosis Nigricans)

3.- Hyperuricemia/ Gout ( joint problem)

4.- Hepatitis ( increase LFT)
