dear friends,
i am very depressed as i did not match this year.
I applied to selective programs in fp and obgy as i wanted to stay with family.
i got about 8 interviews and . 5 of them were very compitative
i have pg from homecountry,good lors,1 lor from us physician, i also shadowed a physician for 6 months.My scores are 89/88/cs passed
Now I dont know how to spend a year till next match.
friends if you have some suggestions to improve my chance next year...please do not hesitate to tell.
Infact i need your valuable support.

Try externship positions in any nearby hospitals,passing step-3 will be an added advantage for your next years application,u have good scores and probably u applied selectively to competetive programmes u didnot match try and widen your net next year,keep urself busy in clinical observership or externship so that there r no gaps in ur cv.

Arpit, one of my friends did not match this year, so I know " the look" and can only imagine how you feel. But do everything you can to leave depression behind you as soon as possible because new season is not that far away. It is really hard to say why you did not match. Maybe the kew word is " selective" and you should apply to wider range of programs, it can be tough decision considering family though. Think over your interviews. Did they go well or you felt there were some weak points? Look through PS, recomendation letters... Try do not allow gap for upcoming 5 months. Maybe with us LOR on hands you will find externship or research spot. Meanwhile study for Step 3. Do not take it if feeling depressed. You have good scores, do not blow them with weak Step 3 result. The PD I talked to that taking Step3 do you a favor only in two situations: bad step1,2, scores ( you show that you were not yourself before) or if you need visa. Good luck. You shoud make it next year!!!
