thanks pals for your encouraging words. i feel so much for 4mymd, i dont know how i would be able to carry on if it were me. but, yes we must move on. i was so depressed yesterday about my scores and i wondered if i will ever get there. but when i sat down with a calm mind i realised that indeed, i have read less than 10% of path so why was i expecting to pass??? this aint no magic!!! so today, i read some more. i have dedicated 3 weeks for thorough path. it is the most integrative course. you have to open up your physio, immuno, bioch, micro, anat, virtuyally every course. incl behav science. so i will use the next 3 weeks to revise the others while i study path. only God can see us through. hodgkins, you will surely get there. just move on irrespective of the scores and learn from teh errors you make. the brain is remarkable for that. you will certainly remember the answers next time around. we will beat this monster USMLE today's motto: I WILL SHINE LIKE A STAR

thanks fruit. hope you are doing fine too. did not reach up to half my target yesterday. i had to pull out my physio text and read renal physiology again. so i managed to finish fluids and i have just acid base to go. not much on nutrition. today has been busy. first laundry, then church, then watched suns vs lakers. suns lost. helped some friends move back to their office that was burnt by some arsonist 2 months ago, then made dinner, cleaned out the fish tank. now here i am. i am tired. it is 9pm can i read just an hour?? am worried i may be missing some stuff in path. what would be the best source for someone who wants to ace the exam. i heard so much about goljan but i wonder??? is it worth it to get robbins and cotran???? path is the back bone of the exam from thespread of questions i saw. tomorrow is a major day for me cos it marks the count down days for my exam. i have just 4 weeks left to study and 2 weeks for revision. can i make it at this snail's speed i am going? can i make it seeing the way i forget stuff??? so sad yesterday when i did revision q in physiol. i missed 3 questions which i had got right previously. i keep a record of my answers so i can compare. hmmm. well i keep on. today's motto THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH. I SHALL RISE UP WITH WINGS AS AN EAGLE. I WILL NOT WEARY.

hi tolito, what is it that you think you've been missing in path? are you using brs? it might be a good idea to complement path with another source. i've heard some people say that path+pathophysiology is up to 70% of the exam. and if u think about it so many things can fall under it, genetics, immunology, enzyme deficiencies, nutrition, infectious diseases, all under the heading of pathology. i had a hard time with hematology/oncology and had to waste a lot of time reading it from robbins. its an awsome book but i think if you understand everything in brs than you don't need it.

thanks gen malaise. i have been reading it in BRS and i can see that a lot of detail is missing esp with inflammation. kaplan is as usual difficult to understandd the first time. will the 2000 edition of robbins be fine??? so many doubts. so many of them. i am beginning to lose confidence in myself and my capabilities. can i make excellent scores in june. can i? i am so afraid to do qbank cos of my last woeful attempt. anyhow, i will continue to move forward. so today i continue with path. if consensus is robbins, i wll go for it. cos path is so very important just as general malaise also pointed out. no point giving a half assed attempt at the exam. today's motto HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR ME.

yes tolito I felt the same way about BRS, maybe we're supposed to know a little bit more from the university, which in my case is not aplicable. The idea is that if one does not understand what BRS is talking than it's not enough. And there are tough subject like immuno which need a good understanding. I read robbins also to make things clear in my mind. I guess it's good to spend time on robbins but I don't think you need to read the whole book. Buona sera

http://www.usmleforum.com/forum/message.php?id=86... tolito you can down load robbins pathology here.I do not advice you to read robbins b/c it is very time consuming.I fyou finish the other subjects Golijan will be fine.Listen to his audio and read his lecture notes. But if you insist on reading robbins ,do not waste your money down load it for free.

thanks a whole bunch. i feel so much better for all your advise and assistance. yes, vallia, it is a whole different ball game from college and most of the stuff is readily forgotten and for me, it is all new stuff. all these molecules were not around last time i studied these dreaded courses. so it is obvious that robbins is the way out for me to learn the basics and also to clear concepts. thanks genmalaise and femaledocny for your kind directions and also mitty for the link. so i decided to at least consolidate some of all these molecules that i have read. went back to immuno and immunity. good news, i got correct all the questions at the end of the chapter in kaplan!!! so i am encouraged to carry on. i am clearing the concepts here in mmi. so good luck to me. no afternoon naps anymore. COUNTDOWN BEGINS: 49DAYS TO GO THERE IS FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN; RUN, RUN, RUN.

at all times, my brothers and sisters, BE ENCOURAGED FOR THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE. at the start of today, i was so dejected and discouraged cos of the low marks i was scoring at qbank. i'd lost confidence that i could be ready for june seeing the sheer volume of work still to be done . i am blessed to have such good people around me to encourage me and lead me right. i got good advice. i trudged on. i persisted. i kept my gaze on the prize and just kept reading . i had always dreaded immunology and today, i said enough, you have to read this important subject so i picked it up and i must just say i thank God for his work in me. i have never scored so good in kaplan. i missed only 3 questions out of 25, and i did not attempt just 5 questions. that gives me a total of 22 over 30. i feel so good. i can go ahead tomorrow praying for such goodness of the Lord. my friends, i will visit tomorrow morning. i am tired. it is now 11pm and i have been up since 4:30am. yesterday was disastrous, i did not assimilate anything. i have been rewarded today with good concentration. let us pray that this trend continues for us all throughout our study period till the last step is done. amen. a bientot!!!

Tolito, I highly recommend Goljan Patology 500 pages, you can buy it on Ebay, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble. I had the same problem as you but after 3 reads of Goljan I have a strong concept and can easily to realize the disease in the question and guess what the question makers want to ask.

thanks ing. the site is so good. i know the webpath slide site but nto the exam one . i did 53 questions on thrombosis and scored 70% . it is obvious that i have nto read adequately on thrombosis. so it justs proves that i need more information. i will go thro thrombosis, inflammation, cell injury, once more in robins. then i will take further tests. this test was more encouraging than the others in which i scored so low.

hi serenity, been a while. noticed you did not write for a while in your diary. path is not going very smoothly for now but i believe it will improve with time. thanks for your encouragement, today was good. read some more immunol. it is true that if you can just master teh concepts and memorize the common conditions, immuno is a subject to get 'easy' questions. ok so i read from mmi, and kaplan and fa. had courage to take qbank. scored lower than average. 54%, average 58%. so i am getting close. i was floored by immune testing, hla, antibodies, cd markers which i had not read. so tomorrow i continue. no giving up. good news for today, my two favorite teams won their games, heats and suns. THERE IS FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN! RUN RUN RUN! COUNTDOWN: 48DAYS TO GO.

no wey i am not studying full time. i take days off from the lab when i do not have subjects for my research protocol. my boss understands. i however attend statutory stuff like meetings. i wish you good luck wey. how far have you gone with your studies? when will you be taking NBME?? today went pretty smooth. am so happy. i have my orange curtains up, i have changed my bed sheets to red, i got a yellow success card from a friend. it has a biiiiiig smile on it. it is hung up on my wall of fame along with kreb cycle. i did 60pages of immuno in kaplan and answered 60q. got 52 correct (no i cheated, got 50 correct). this is so encouraging. hmm. we should never give up on anything. we should always have confidence in ourselves. we need to believe in ourselves. i said to myself that this exam is for second year med students (a la genmalaise) and so i am smarter than they. if they can understand the concepts so can i. so i dug in. i read mmi first and then kaplan. it was soooooooo easy to understand. i missed only those questions i am yet to study. so tomorrow, i will finish the last 50pages of kaplan and then conclude my notes and take qbank. tomorrow, i need to go to the office and also the hospital in respect of my protocol. and also do some grocery shopping... GOD IS ON HIS THRONE, SO VICTORY IS MINE COUNTDOWN: 47DAYS.
