TATAAUGhi guys, i have been down with the flu. but the battle is not over yet. thanks for your support. i will be doing nbme later today ie in 3hrs' time. i have had a most rewarding 3days despite the flu. i have learnt gene language, i have learnt protein synthesis, i understand the rna's and their function, my bioch is much better, i can make a diagnosis of tay-sach's and i feel better prepared for the exam. i have been studying FA using it as a study guide for my revision. i am not done with it yet but i will do the NBME irrespective. thanks all once again. i really appreciate it.UAGUGAUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO BE DISMAYED. WAIT ON THE LORD

hey guys, thank you so much for your support. i am very grateful to you all. it has been a loooong week for me. i did not post all thro cos i was almost losing it. i was getting so worked up and worried about the exam. i started NBME again and i had to suspend at the begining of 2nd block cos i was not sure of about 50% of my answers. then i did it today and YIPPEE, 540 which correlates with 228 or 93. am so happy. i had lost all confidence in myself but i just dug my heels in. at one point, i actually thought 'why bother? your job as a consultant is waiting in your home country. why not just turn around and go back home? in any case, you are always having a tiff or the other with your hubby. just pack the relationship up and go back home'

that is always the easier way out. to pack it up and leave. i am no quitter so i did not quit. i am so happy. the extra week i put in did help. guess what, i was right in 80% of my choices the first time i tried the test. i just lacked confidence. i feel so much confident in myself that i believe i will ace this exam. God willing.

unfortunately, i already postponed the exam cos i was frantic last week. i postponed it on the last day of grace. the girl i spoke to said i was 2hrs late so i would need to pay the fine but when i called back later to pay the fine, and re-schedule, their system had broken down nationwide!!! so i ended up not paying a dime extra. God is good. so final and D day is 25th july. no more shifting, no more shaking, no more lack of confidence, no more breakdowns. now it is the time for the 'MEN'. NO BABIES!!!

GUYS, WE CAN DO IT. NBME WAS SIMPLER THAN Q BANK BUT Q BANK TOUGHENS YOU UP AND DEVELOPS YOUR 3 LEVEL THINKING.

THANK YOU ALL ONCE AGAIN.

plastic girl, mitty, aisha, thanks for your votes of confidence and well wishes. zzz, i must tell you that kaplan has virtuallly everything. you can answer up to 80% of the questions if you know kaplan inside and out. this is probably not possible for most of us. when i stopped to revise, i read just kaplan and my notes. i made my notes from all the resources i had used in studying. it is so funny that you just keep seeing the answers as one liners tucked away somewhere in kaplan!!! FA is not enough for pharm except you have read other sources like lippincott. i would rather say kaplan pharma again. i am going to 'chew' FA cos if there is something in it i do not understand then i will look it up in my texts or notes. it is essential that one knows everthing in FA. there should be no 'GRAY' areas in whatever we read from FA.

one thing i am doing is i am keeping a little book where i write things i want to check up while studying. i also have another little book where i write titbits i must know but which i will forget before the exam. i also include in this book integrated stuff eg histamine release is caused by morphine, mivacurium and d tubocurarine. psammoma bodies are seen in malig meothelioma, meningioma and papillary ca of thyroid. cos i saw a q in q bank that asked about the concentric calcification seen on biopsy of a thyroid mass and they asked what other tu may present with similar finding on histo ( i had 81% in qbank histo by the way!!!). i will see if i can scan the pages and paste in my diary later. never mind my poor writing. i hope you folks will be able to discern it!!!

thanks tolito i got it actually i read kaplan pharm before but for final review i am thinking about FA b/c in my busy schedual with house & kids it is difficult for me to keep all books in hand for revision thatswhy i was thinking of doing FA pharma & micro & g anatomy with the other subjects iwill try to stick with k notes till end +FA for everything.

  #419

i like your idea of small note books i will gonna do that too.

  #420

hi,tolito, I have been reading your journal for a long time. it is great! now I have a question for you. When I do Qbook, first time I only got 60-70% correct rate. second time is better 70-80% . i feel bad.shoud I do Qbank now or review again? how many blocks do you do per day?
thanks a lot!

  #421

zzz, good plan you got. pharma is so volatile and so important. i find that pharma is too skimpy in FA. take a look at cns and ans pharma whcih are so important. very little in FA. it is so difficult to summarise pharma that is why FA is inadequate. if you have notes then supplement it with fa otherwise, you will have to look in kaplan. i always have to read these 2 areas over and over again. FA micro and anat are good. the note book idea came while reading someone's experience and s/he said s/he wished s/he had witten dwon little stuff that s/he may forget.

lilla, if you are sitting the exam in a month or so, then do qbank cos you have fresh questions. your score in qbook may be improving cos you are doing the questions a second time. you do not want a falsely high figure. how many blocks per day will depend on your stamina. you also want to keep in mind that you need a strong knowledge base to answer questions correctly. i tried to do at least one block per day and towards the exam increase to at least 4 a day in order to build up my stamina.
