I am an IMG and failed STEP 3 with 73. I intend to apply for the 2007 match so plan on retaking STEP 3 towards the end of August so I get a PASS result by the time the match application procedure starts. My question is if I pass STEP 3 on my next attempt, will residency programs get to know about my first failed attempt on STEP 3?

It will show up in your transcript however donot loose heart,u failed by a whisker,so try and study well and get a good score this time around, and that shud convince PDS' to shortlist you and ignore that attempt. Good Luck.

Hi KAT, how much does a good score in Step-3 matter? Do the PDs give it any value if at all?

From what I heard the program cares that you passed, that is all. But it will have some value for the fellowship. If one has barely passing score the fellowship program can think that this can be a sign of poor clinical judgement because this is what step 3 about. They would not care that the exam was taken before any experience gained...
