hello guys

been a long time since i came on this sight. anyway just wanted to let you know of my experience and give hope to the people who need it. i MATCHED. i am from chicago and got into lutheran and guys i only got two interviews took both step 1 and step 2 twice each and both still in the 70,s as well as the cs twice. when i was being interviewed the interviewers told me that it was just my personal statement that made the difference. trust me guys i think that people really figured out that 90,s are not the solution for being a good doctor rather it is the person most importantly. those days are all gone and if you want my opinion which i can say based on what i had to go through the thing that works the most against you as an fmg is english and your perception of a doctor in the us. well anyway just wanted to let those who feel like giving up on the usmle because of attempts that i learned this is just a board exam and you need it to practice and beyond that its you they want and not just your scores. good luck and God be with you

Bravo and best of luck in your residency. Sounds like your PS and your interviewing skills did the job for you. I hope that you do well.

Thanks for writing your experiences on this forum. gives people like us a boost in the morale. I was very disheartened after writing my exam . Can you guide me as to what are the good points to emphasize on when writing a personal statement. My email censuscensus2003@yahoo.com. I know it is asking a lot to ask you to forward your personal statement and I am not going to ask either , but some pointers and excerpts would be a great help .
Thanks a bunch once again.

Thanks and good luck with you work at the hospital

  #19

Hi tireddr, can you give some clues of what you wrote in your personal statement, and what specialty did you match? Congratulations

  #20

Congratulations tireddoc!.

I don't know if sharing his PS with you guys is correct, it's something personal, it's about HIS reasons to study his residency, what HE was looking in a residency program, about HIS qualities, etc. But it's only my opinion. At the end, this is a forum, and everybody has a different opinion.

Those needing help with their personal statements can always start a thread here and ask people for criticism (friendly, of course). That way people would look at it, tell you lots of opiums, er - opinions - and you are getting lots of help.

Good luck.

  #22

bbb that is an excellent idea
but i wonder who will share it with all

  #23

Doctor81 - start with your PS and see who comments on it. It's worth a shot isn't it?

  #24

yes it is

i will start in august end
busy with my exams
i know PS takes a lot of time &thinking but i have to wait till august
& i feel i will share it here

  #25

sorry to disagree with u bbb..i don't think its a good idea to share one's PS here coz lot of people might wanna copy few lines or whole PS of someone either intentionally or unintentionally...i know a PD of one program who frequents these forums as well as usmleweb.com n tht PD told me during one of my interviews that she goes online on forums to read sample PS n then confronts applicants during interview about taking help of sample PS..infact one of the applicants during my interview told me that he was confronted by that PD even though he just took couple of lines from sample PS available online.....i guess that PD had nothing else to do except to go online ..u can call that smartness or that PD is't too busy which reflects that program might b an average program n i didt even rank that program...n bbb u being PC its possible that u may come across same PS from different people n that might b a reason for u not to invite that particular candidate so its best to just keep one's PS personal...yeah u can look online for samples n try to word it in a different way..Good Luck
