hi i have recently graduated from residency and still not passed step 3 ,after reviewing all the study materials mentioned here. i am wondering if i can be employed at all without step3-i do understand it is needed for your liscence ,prescribing and treating. can one enter research feilds? i feel so demoralised that i dont know if i can take the exam again...i dont even know what i want anymore. also i may have crossed that 7 year gap between taking step one and step 3, what happens next, if i have to take step 1 and 2 again, i just couldnt go through it again...no way, feel so stressed, dont know what to think anymore...please respond....

It is my first time to this form and it is unfortunate that I have read your note. First of all let me know what have you studied so for? Do you have a study partner or not. I will come back and post my suggestions. My sympathy is with you. ou are not alone. You will get there, everything needs struggle, more or less. There is only one way that you will not be able to get a license and that is to quit and stop trying.

hi there, you shouldnīt go to a research field, only because you havenīt been able to pass this step. i donīt know about the fact that you could have to repeat the other steps, no idea!, ask to USMLE/ECFMG about it for more exact information. about step 3: itīs based on step 2CK and clinical experience, so if you have gone through a residency, you have the clinical experience, you just need to remember somethings about step 2CK, read kaplan lecture notes for step 2ck and a review book for step 2ck like boards and wards, for example. In addition: UW MCQ+CCS for step 3, Crush step 3, maybe Swanson too (some would recommend UW for step 2ck, too). in resume: YOU NEED AN AGGRESIVE APPROACH this time to pass it the next time you sit for it without any chance to have to repeat it again. no more. hope this helps

time for preparation: it depends on you and how fast you read and study, and if you are working or not. But letīs say 3-5 months.

hi Dear, Nothing to worry if you fail step 3 many times. You can take it in states where there is no 7 year limit like california, Florida, Delawer,. People who pass with excellent scores do the following. 1) Review DVD course of Kaplan x 3 and make your notes, listen every word carefully. 2) Take usmleworld q bank, and do 1-2 blocks/day. Then read the explaination of all the right and wrong answers. Learn why you are picking right choice and why you made a mistake in picking right choice. 3) Once you done with the usmle q bank. Do all the questions again in time mode and see if you can finish a block on time. This will prepare you for the real exam stamina, so you will remain focus and will not get tired. 4) 3 week before examination listen to all DVDs of step3 from Kaplan. 5) You need 3 week for CCS cases of USMLEworld, read them 3 times at least and the practice them in the NBME software, so that in real exam you need not to recall how to do this. You need to learn CCS very well how to move the clock and patient, otherwise you cannot pass this examination. 6) HTN, Hyperlipidemia, DM, CAD, Stds, eclampsia, pregnancy, adolescent, child growth charts, and giariatrics must be on your finger tips. You must learn about 20-30 commonly used drugs and their side effects and interactions. Like Morphine, HCTZ, Betablockers, alpha blockers, lithium, SSRI and other antidepressants etc. 7) If you are really week, then you can do some of the Swansons topics and you should go back to step2 ck kaplan course. 8) You also need t review ethics, notjing special available. But wharever is available it make you general sense how to approach the cases. 9) RUNNING AFTER TO MANY THINGS AND MATERIALS WILL JUST FRUSTRATE YOU, THE MATERIAL I SUGESTED IS MORE THAN ENOUGH TO PASS RATHER TO SCORE HIGH PROVIDED YOU HAVE LEARN IT PROPERLY. EVERY TIME YOU WILL REVISE YOU WILL LEARN A NEW POINT. I hope this help, keep you moral up and prepare well for 3-4 months. Good luck.

hi there, i read your post and know what youre going thru; I am a 4th psych resident; the first attempt, i used kaplan q bank and swansons, got a 72; the second attempted was during a very busy 3rd yr and i never shouldve taken it, used crush and qbank, got a 68; this 3rd attempt was this past jan-i used kaplan videos and qbank, and I got a 74, i was devastated; I plan on taking it again in early august; i curently have first aid step 3 and crush step 3; ive registered again for kapaln qbank again but havent used it much; im not sure if i should start usmle world now or when the kaplan qbank subscrption runs out; on top of all this, i have a very busy consult rotation coming up in may and june..after that, a much more laid back geriatrics rotation; any thoughts are appreciated btw-i passed step 1 with a 197 and step 2 (when it wasnt didvided into cs and ck with a 175..a that time it was a passing score) thanks

Hi there, Hope you have passed your step-3. How did the licencing process went since many states require candidate to pass all USMLE steps within seven years for being licenced in that state. Please tell us your experience and where you practicing currently. Thanks
