kaplan says that in CO poisoning arterial P O2 remains normal while O2 saturation dec .

can anyone pl explain this statement how is it possible?

thanks

partial pressure of O2 is the amount that is dissolved in plasma and O2 saturation is the amount on heamoglobin..so in CO poisoning CO is attached to the heamoglobin instead of O2 and hence O2 saturation is decreased...since there is no ventilation perfusion defect in the lungs ,partial pressure of O2 is normal
