I agree with bbb - good looking parents usually (but not always) have good looking offsprings - there is no mystery here. I have another question - what features make us believe that someone is attractive or ugly? what is definition for beauty? I guess this topic is more relevant to the 'forum lounge' than to the 'genetics forum'.

Definition of beauty is health & symmetry(how well does our right half corelates with left).

yes, I also heard about symmetry - symmetry is the feature of health - but is the symmetry only thing that matters for our decision? very long, but absolutely symmetrical nose isn't making the face beautiful.

well, p53, for beauty I gotta say it's the MEDIA (whatever is considered by others to be beautifull, inconsciously is considered by you too) first of all and secondary determining factors of beauty are current tendencies that also is implemented by the media (like.. in the past fat women were considered atractive, or even further in the past white skin was considered the "gold standard".. now it's another story; also in the 80-90's the thing that atracted the women to rock stars was their unwashed look (?!).. also, your id has something to say about it. you can find a ugly person.. let's say preety much beautifull if you like something else about him/her.. theese were just a few thoughts, but there are HUGE scientifical studies about beauty.. but we'll never know if they are 100% right 'cause it's a kinky subject

All humans, on a genetic (biological) level are programmed to find certain physical attributes as attractive. Such as in men: fine jawline, wider jaws. This is a sign of better testosterone levels. Which will in the end, make for a healthier child. To say that the media controls what is attractive is just ignorant. Study biology before you make such statements. What the media does control, however, is certain trends that people may find attractive. For a certain time period. Clothes & hairstyles of the 80's, for instance, attracted mates in that time period because the media said that it was in. Today, you'll probably get laughed at in that style. There are definitely archetypes that are attractive due to our genetic programming.

p53 agree with you on genetics. a very long nose symmetrically long nose can be beutiful if well suited on your face.

if that's the case, then why is it that durring time there were different lines in the human body considered as beautiful? wide jaw? well, in the Renaiscence, men with women-like faces were considered beautiful. well, I don't say that features that say "yo, this woman if very fertile" or "hey, this guy is enough male to protect your offsprings" don't say nothing. the secondary sexual caracteristics which are determined preety much entirely by your genetic fund have a lot to do with our choices, with out inconscious understanding of the atractiveness, BUT during our evolution we self taught ourselves to depend less and less on theese natural means of survival and we began to think our way through life. our success in life, the thing that makes us the fittest that survive :P depends on our capability to comunicate with each other. To be frank I say that who is the best at being friends with others is the one that gains the most/ the one that kisses the most ass wins the girl on this comunication idea I base my whole theory of atractiveness to be determined largely by the media.. this is how I see it. this is not wrong as you said. Is my point of view... you can argue with me... you can give me arguments of theorys of your own but please don't say I'm wrong 'cause there is no scientifical bases on your arguments!!

I have read once that we are only using other people to sexually excite ourselves, so not other people are satisfying us, we are satisfying ourselves using other people.
