A 40 yr old patient complains that he cant sit or stand still and always has a desire to be in constant motion. He is been smoking a pack a day for last 10 yrs. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia 2 months ago and is on haloperidol.wat should be done for the patients present compliant?

1) ask the patient to stop smoking

2) decrease the dose of haloperidol

3) treat the patient with trihexiphenidyl

4) treat the patient with propanolol.

5) change the neuroleptic drug

6) treat with diazepam.

great.....thanks for the reply.......actually I dont have the answer......came up with this question myself.......

but shouldnt we consider changing the drug to atypical antipsychotics.........

just curious............

and if in the question it was stated that patient did not experience another episode of psychosis after the treatment then should we consider lowering the dose........
