What exactly is observership? Is it done only in university hospital?Does hospital/supervising physician charge fee for it? Can somebody give list of hospitals where observership is offered for IMGs? I'm still confused about it. R there any preconditions to get it?.I'm IMG 4 yr since graduation. Any chances of observership around Fresno,Calfornia area?

technically an observership means that you cannot speak to or touch a patient, therefore you mainly shadow the physician and learn that way. In my opinion an observership can count as usce, others will say it does not count as usce, but no one knows for sure. Different programs may look at it differently. However, the point of doing an observership is to obtain a letter of recommendation from a US doctor. This may help you more than the observership experience itself. Do the observership in the field you are interested in only. Good luck.
