mash and usmlevikki, congrats on your match. could you please share your credentials...like your usmle scores, work experience and visa status.

I had interviews at UIC and maimonides, but didnt' match, so just wanted to know where my application was lacking....

Thanks!!

WOW!! my creds are nowhere near close... i had scores of 84,89 and passed CS with no USCE. I also needed a visa.

Can you guys advise me on what I can do for the next match. Lets say I do an observership for a few months, will it bolster my resume enough to get a position next year. I mean realistically speaking do I have a chance with my scores and visa requirement?

  #10

Ofcourse U do have a better chance compared to many others who need visa and have a bad score.

Its just wait n watch...relax

drgoyal,
try to get an observeship/externship and get LORs frm attendings...
take step 3 too (if u are interested in H1)..
scores are just a part of application...ur past clinical experience and usce definitely helps...
good luck!!

Hi all,

I got a position at the program of my first choice...I am too excited. Children's Hospital ...Uni of Oklahoma. I had no work experience in pediatrics and need a visa so don't worry too much. try your best and leave the rest to God.

Congrats to all and i can't say enough how much this forum has helped me get through the steps and match. everyone is great here.

Big congrats to all who matched and good luck to everyone who is trying for the next match.

drear rashmi_k3,

I wouldn't mind sharing any info at all...I would be glad to be of any help to anyone if i can. step1:90, step2:97, csa cleared, ecfmg certified. no us experience. 2002 grad. needed a visa. I know it's a great program and i surely feel lucky coz i applied to a few programs only. good luck to you.

hi, there is such little word from pediatrics candidates who have matched and yet to match. Can somebody from peds or applying to peds help me with a query?

i want to know how competitive is pediatrics as compared to medicine if you need a h1 visa.

  #20

I would say equally competitive if not less.

two reasons.

1. this year many amgs applied to peds.

2. if you compare number of h1b offering programs, you will find peds has few.

still it does not mean it cant happen.

good luck

vikki
