scramble??
BBB can you tell us why the position fill even before the start of post match scramble. As i find on the match day when i got congrats you have matched there were stats too that show,, unfilled positions,
family practice 404
internal medicine 99
General surgery around480
But one of my friend who have to go through the scramble told me that many position were already filled even before he got the unmatched program list,, he said fp position were only in 100s and around 39 in internal medicine, Why it is so.
Dear BBB you are so helpful throughout the season can you tell me why

Nobody believed me when I wrote down my experience from last year...I even said some FP programs will b left in the end...thats wat happened this year too...

the reason is,
the american grads who do not get matched will get to know that they didnot match bit earlier than us!!!,and their medical college deans ring up the programmes nearby to accomodate them amongst the empty positions
this is the reason why u have less positions when as an img u r scrambling.

yup. in any country having geographical advantage is huge!!! programs only concern is getting their spots filled before or after scramble. deans priority is getting their students matched somewhere. its only natural they get the spots first. lifes like that.

It's not a scam - it's just massive numbers of candidates
looking for tiny number of available position. My spot took 27 hours to fill. It's unreal how many faxes, emails, phone calls I received when the ERAS page says ERAS apps only. I don't know if I will ever see daylight again.

so bbb do u mean to say that ur program filled up seats with applicants who applied only through ERAS during Scramble?? I mean we all know ERAS takes abt atleast 48 hours to upload one's USMLE transcripts as well as ECFMG status..I am just curious to know that wat criteria ur program used to fill seats during scramble?...did ur program take any IMG's during scramble ??..or was it the fone call from Dean's office which helped applicants get the spot? no offense ..its just tht im hoping to get an honest answer from u abt this coz u r the only person who knows better abt how programs fill seats during scramble..

My program filled with only ERAS applicants. Faxes and emails weren't even looked at (we couldn't keep up with keeping paper in the fax machine - it was awful - the worse that I remember in my ...... many .... years of residency.
Phone calls from dean's offices didn't help because they said that every candidate was the best in their school, etc, and when you looked at the ERAS file, you found out why they didn't match.
Criteria - We took persons who had an advanced position for 2007 and needed a preliminary year - and we thought could handle the patient population and program expectations.
As for the time line (27 hours) - there is a little poetic license in there - it just seemed like forever.
