Hi friends, I'm on H4 now. I matched to an IM program in NY. They do sponsor H1 but I'm yet to take my step 3, may be in another 3 weeks. If I pass step 3 then I can get H1 done by premium processing(15 days). But if I fail, then I wont have enought time left to do the J1. So I wanted to find out if I can start J1 processing, and then later when I pass step3(may 1st week), can I withdraw the J1 from ECFMG? or if the J1(DS2019) is already processed by that time, will I have the obligation to join on J1. I'm thinking about all this because if I can't pass step3 and start J1 in May, I may not get the J1 on time and I may lose my residency position. I'm in a dilemma. Could anyone who have an idea about this guide me? I have to decide and talk to the program about this tomorrow. Thanks for the help, Kavya

You can apply, but if the government sees that you have applied for a J visa, your application will not be processed for an H visa. I found this out from a candidate a couple of years ago. Good luck.
