I applied to every single radiology program in the country (except california because I didn't have the ca letter). I called every program that did not send me a rejection letter till January.
The most important thing they looked for was regionality (all of my interviews were close to where I live) and your step 1 score. When I called up programs, I would try to mention my step 1 score whenever possible. (of course I did not mention it during interviews)
