ok i'll try it: if a T cell recognizes an antigen presented by an APC (because the TCR is exactly matching) it becomes an activated T-Cell. it then produces certain cytokines (IL3,4,5) and stimulates autocrine and paracrine (Bcells, eosinophils in allergic reaction). activated t-cell expresses CD40ligand which recognizes CD40 on B-cells (this is how B-cells are stimulated to produce IgE) using FACS you can sort out the activated Tcells from a suspension. sorry if this is only more confusing instead of clarifying anything.

basically activated t cell is an ACTIVE T Cell. T cells get activated by antigen presenting cells and than practically control the whole immune response. secreate various cytokines and recruit other leucocytes. i hope its not too simplified.
