First thing first.. congrats on your score!!! as i have looked through alot of the schemes on this site on other users i liked yours the very most. I am a IFMG who just finished in Decemer of 2007. and started studying for step 1 and scared like living hell. don't know where to begin. i signed up for step 1 to take in june july and august.. hoping its plenty of time. what scares me the most is that i won't finish all the material and fall back. i don't know what to use and where to start from. some days i just get lost and don't want to do anything. i have all the materials books , dvd's first aid, qbook, eventually i will sign up for Usmle world once i am done with the review. but i would like to ask is how should i begin and how much time should i put into these subjects or divide them? Is 6 months enough to study? please help.

hey sharvil. Thanks a lot for the advice.I believe a lot in visualizing yourself succeeding in order for you to actually succeed.I will like you to give me some piece of advice.I am an IFMS in Cameroon.I have two major concerns.First I will like to know if you think 9months is enough time for prepation.secondly, must I use only Kaplan Q bank and all those books which you listed?I have only the NMS series for most of the basic sciences. What do you think, should I purchase all those books?Should i extend my preparation time?raised eyebrow

The best advice that I ever seen nod thank you very much ^_^

  #128

nodthanks for that wonderful fresh starter ...reallly it has a kick off effect ...
i have just started preparing....planning to give in august ...internship duty is off so can devote 8-10 hrs a day .....if i wish....so i think that wud be a decent time slot...but really i feel scared..completed physio first read but just dont get the courage to do questions.....and the forum questions are all the more disheartening ....so if i plan to give in august ..could u give a precise time table that by what time i shud start doing questions ....dont have that confidence yet .....
and in physio kaplan is enough or need to do brs or nms...
startd with path.....goljan review directly..do i need to do robbins or kaplan as text or thats enugh ....waisting for ur reply
thanks

I think 9 months is way too much time. Don't over estimate this exam. It is not easy, but still it is not the neurosugery fellowship exam!

There are so many good review books out there. You do not have to stick to someone elses plan or advice. Ask, Search, look up, then choose for your self.

congratulations!

I have a question about the books you have mentioned.
1 goljan patho full test
2 goljan 5 star pathology

Can I get these two books at the book store?
WHich has more questions and do you suggest to do both for studying pathology?
thanks

Dr. Goljan's book that you can find in bookstores now is Rapid Review of Pathology by Edward Goljan.

thanks new n lost for reopening the thread, i am busy with my general surgery residency and cannot answer all questions, but that does not mean that people should not be allowed to read the initial thread which is self explanatory! Besides this is not a question and answer forum, i think its important to have a good discussion, because my answers are not always the correct answers.

Good luck docs for the new match!!! I m sure you all are gonna give your best and succeed!!

SHar,
I totally agree with your plan/style. I think reading a new book even if it's first aid in the last few days will be less help than re-reading what you already have.

  #138

Gee, what's this thread....
What should I study? How many times should I go over and which book? and which author? and which edition? Shall I make notes or not? Shall I repeat after each chapter or not?

Guys I guess you all are done with med school, you know your way of studying, you already have your own style...just change a little bit, don't ask questions like this is the first time you are holding med book in your hand

The guy already gave us lots of advices!

Thanks a lot.
