of course u have to read answers to all questions whether u got them right or wrong, reading answers = reinforcing ur theory, its like a whole new revision. i did from 50-200 questions per day depending on my mood, sometimes i felt bored to read the theory and would solve questions. but u shud alteast solve 2000-2500 questions before the exams.

good luck

Hi sharvil ... Congrats! u r done with it...
Hope to get some advice from U. I hav done Kaplan notes, goljan notes once without kap DVDs.... secured 60% in online kaplan Qbank...... Do u think watching DVDs would help me to score higher or shuld I read Kaplan notes alone again????

one more Q did U solve any other Qbank??? or just kaplan?

Ur response will b highly appreciated. Thanks for being here for helping us. God bless U

i think u shud watch the dvds if u have them esp the behavioral and biochem ones. all of them are good according to my friends. u shud do one reading with the dvds.

i did both qbook and qbank for step 1

sorry for the delay in answering.........good luck.

hi,

In US, each state has their own policy; If you passed the Step 1,2,3 and matched for residency in US; According to different state policyn, need you take some specific examines again or not? Tx

  #45

i think its only step 1,2,3 thats all. i am not aware of any state specific sites.

hi sharvil.i really want to thank u for such a great post which u wrote .i wanted to know how u were using kaplan DVD did u take notes will listening to DVD or just listened to them simply pls tell me that thank u god bless

  #47

i did not have kaplan dvds, but i think u shud take notes while u listen to them.

the best way is read kaplan text once, then listen to dvds and keep writing notes simultaneoulsy and then read ur kaplan text with the included notes in them.

that should be SOLID!! good luck

Hi sharvil. thank u so much for the valuable advice ur a gem of a kind.i wanted to ask u one thing more.how did u memorised whole kaplan what method did u usedto memorise it ,all ur answer are valuable to me and will greatly appreciate it .Really this forum and the people here are so good and thank u so much.god bless

  #49

i think i read the kaplan 4 times so it was almost memorized. well u have to read again and again. make notes and discuss, the best way to learn is to teach someone. try to discuss topics with a study group. for step 1 first aid has a lot of useful mnemonics to help u remember things. also make a diary of useful facts and keep reading them frequently......so that u can memorize hard to remember facts. also try to remember to study and relax adequately also....remember when u r fresh, and keep in mind the fact that each line of the textbook has the potential to save a life!! if ur patients life depends on ur memory i think ur memory will work fine.

Hi Sharvil
Thank you for all your support
I am a little bit confused. I have an average of 60% on Kaplan questions.
Do I need to repeat the same questions until I reah my goal or do I need to go with others questions until I reach the 75% or more.
am working with mainly Kaplan questions

  #51

its not going to be beneficial to repeat the same questions but rather do more and more variety of questions. finish off all kaplan questions first then if u still feel the need do the goljan patho questions they are really good, then do BRS behavioral questions which are in the BRS behavioral book, also if u want u can solve a few BSS questions, i did only 200-300 BSS questions because they were simply too tough. ALso do kaplan simulated and questions from the sample cd sent by ecfmg. good luck.

good luck.

Hi Sharvil
Thank you for your serious help.
I should have known this forum earlier. I just found this forum yesterday.
Here is where I need your advice
I am working and very busy but I am trying to keep a time for my exam.
I finished my first reading of Kaplan. Just started first aid and I am doing between 74 to 50% in Kaplan questions bank with an average of 59 to 60. For pathology, I have been working with BRS. I will start my second reading end of June.
I tried BSS and they are very, very hard questions. I finished the first two books and I am around 52 %.
I will be taking the step 1 end of July.
Could you please give me some more advice?
Here also, is my concern. My schedule is to pass step 1 in August- step 2cs in September and step 2ck end of November to mid December. I want to be eligible for the 2007 match.
Could you please tell me if the timing is good or I need to make some deadline to become eligible as time is getting closer?
I have no idea on what to do. Could you please tell what you think?

  #53

ur timing is not going to help u at all for the 07 match, i have to be honest with u, if u want to maximize ur chances for 07 match its better if u have all three scores in hand as u apply by 1st september in order to ensure maximum interviews. U can always take ur chances this year.

BSS is damn tough, now dont do any more BSS. complete all the kaplan q book and bank. do kaplan simulated tests. do the usmle sample cd questions. before ur exam take a weeks break from work if it is possible for you, or schedule lighter work.

dont worry if u cant make it work this year, a better score is always better than one year less. once u have a score its stuck for 7 years. so my advice to u is not to rush, take ur time and apply this year but dont expect anything, u might get something u might not.......just dont compromise by picking up anything that comes up ur way, unless u r in a really bad situation and u desperately need the residency. in that case just pick up whatever comes up ur way. i would study and study in a relaxed manner for my usmles because they are the single most important factor that is going to decide my future.

good luck.
