ADVICE FROM MY SIDE
read every thing with concepts.boards doesnot give straight forward qs.do qs and make your concepts clear..AND DONT UNDER ESTIMATE ANY SUBJECT.DO ALL SUBJECTS WELL..MAY GOD BE WITH YOU..
Let me remember the HY now

2.anti helminths(should know which is used where)
3.agonist antagonist graphs(do ANS well)
4.half life calculation
5.lidocaine in a gragh,whats the effect on APD
6.antianginals
7.read the general pharma well.

9.know your second messengers not only for drugs but for hormones too.
10.look at all the pictures for patho in FA.Honestly I didnot do webpath.If you dont have time,you should be ok with that
11.physio..pressure volume loop..
12.how to identify testicular lesions
13..know male reproductive system well
14.know endocrine physiology well..
15.graves disease...know the effects on visual field
16.huntingtons,alzheimers,alcholism,NF,know everything
17.know the DNA repair defects well.
19.know all the biostat calculations well.practice,practice practice.
20.herbal drugs
21.general oncology
23.interleukins,interleukins,interleukins.
24.apoptosis
25.cancer histologies
26.status epilepticus
27. mechanism of action of corticosteroids

29.DI..know everything about it.

33.DO CNS WELL!
34.warfarin and heparin..know anti coagulants well.
35.read the doctor pt relationship chapter from kaplan
36.genetic code..know how to read it,

38.GIT enzymes..pancreatic enzymes
39.know Amino acids well.even the essential,non essential,acidic,basic,neutral..where they ebter a pathway,where they leave.which is used where/
40.know the nutrition section well.
41.CVS..do this chapter well.
42.how to interpret ECG.
43.know the glomeruloneohritidis well.
44.know the vaccines well..not just which is used where...but what is the DEEP immune mechanism.
45.read thru the charts and flow sheets given in kaplan micro..it helps.
46.HIV virus..know each and every detail about this.
47.fungi..know the morphology.sometimes it is the only clue you have for the q.capsulated,yeast,broad based etc.
48.drug interactions,
49.cancer drugs..know the ones that are not in the FA ..the unusual ones.They now dont ask..OKAY METHOTREXATE,GIVE LEUCOVORINE...they ask about the wierd drugs.read kaplan well
50.know all pbs in intracranial pressures and optic nerve
51.know cns embryology well
52. double vision,ataxia.know all pathologies causing it,
54.. immunolgy of graft vs host rejection,transplant reaction etc etc.
55.interleukins..know thye mechanisms.
57.HIV regulatory genes..
58.NF..not the chromosome number or what it causes...HOW DOES IT CAUSE IT ON GENE LEVEL??
59.know lower limb anatomy well.
60.do skin and connective tissue well.erythema nodosum,pemphigus,all skin cancers..know the histology.where will be the inflammatory cells,epidermal,supra epidermal,basal layer etc etc.
61.CNS tumors are very very HY.know the histology
62.know the developmental stages in children.learn them by heart.
3.know all pathologies causing hyper pigmentation.
5.duct cancers are more HY than breast cancers itself.
67.trauma and injuries.
anatomy of male genital system.d all embryological defects.
69.paraneoplastic syndromes.
70.branchial arches..learn them by heart.
71.mesoderm,ectoderm,endoderm derivatives.
73.cerebellar lesions, interlinked to neuro,gross anatomy,histology,pathology,BS..but do this section well.
74.MLF
One thing..I had no problem in time managment.I finished each block in 25 minutes and believe me I had 25 minutes to revise my marked qs.try to be fast and then look at your book marked qs.
I would suggest dont take a long 30 minutes lunch break.I took 5 minutes breaks between each block and one time I had such a bad panic attack that I had to go to the wash room and I made sure I get it over with in 10 minutes ..The time I had for my breaks gave me relaxation mentally.So its better to take some energy bars with you,drink black coffee in the morning,eat a good break fast,keep red bull with you,and be confident.
I prayed in the morning,and I prayed in my break time.so keep asking for strength from God.
Its a marathon guys.Try to relax,try to be positive(which is hard i know)..try to revise everything you tend to forget.
Make a list right from the start that you will revise the last day.only those things that need to be revised again and again.
The system is just like usmle CD.Just one thing ,if you do not skip the tutorial,make sure you answer or click at some answer choice in the q given in tutorial otherwise when u will end the tutorial block,this will come in red"you have not completed this session".igot confused and wasted 10 minutes on it.
I honestly dont know how I did.Right now its a mixed feeling.Sometimes I think I might pass,some times I get scared.But I cant do anything now.Its out of my hands.So prayers is all I have got now.I need your well wishes.

and i have a suggestion for qn number 18 -
sounds like they were asking for NNT (number needed to treat)
which is 1/ARR (absolute risk reduction)
ARR is incidence rate of exposed pats minus incidence rate of unexposed.
i am not sure though... not really my favourite subject.
oh, for immunology i have ordered http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/0071382178/... do you think that will be enough? i also have janeway but that one might be too large...

I JUST HOPE I SCORE GOOD.THANK A LOT FOR THE PRAYERS AND WELL WISHES,
For immunology,I would say,if you are a fresh graduate,may be your concepts will be more clear and you will do well with kaplan.But for me kaplan was deceptive as I scored good on their q bank but on the exam I totally feel it was not enough.You not only need to know what a T cell is but you have to know exactly HOW it acts..I would strongly suggest some big book like jawetz.Honestly q bank immunology qs are not enough.Go thru some other source too...I mean you need to practice more qs.either q book or any thing.get your hand on any thing that helps u to solve qs.
Janka..you are right,This was the exact q I got.Infact there were two.well I didnot know these calculations.Even if it was in q bank,I forgot.so got both qs wrong.
I still think that exam is doable.keep your focus on the HYs.They actually are the main stregth you will have on the exam.
I am so crazy and used to books that now I am done and I feel like picking up step 2 books and start studying..may be its a natural feeling.But honestly guys,I AM SO PROUD TO BE A DOCTOR.I am so proud that I can read and understand this foreign language.failures,low scores on one side...but just to be a part of this profession is thrilling.One of my very good friends always says"these exams are just a hurdle towards our being a doctor in US".Definitely you should aim for high scores,but study with a passion.Not for scores,but to gain knowledge.and be humble.
I really am in a state of shock,uncertainity,surprise,happiness and fear.I remember qs I got wrong which were easy qs,and I get so scared..but then its all predecided.I couldnot sleep the whole night,tossing and turning.
Study hard.It was our decision to be a doctor and we always knew it wont be easy.So I have accepted the fact that life will be like this for me..
Remember me in your prayers.Any way I could be of any help,plz do ask.I will try my best to guide you guys(although I dont know what is my fate...but still.whatever I know,I will try my best.God bless you all.

wow! Its finally over!! Thank you so much for all that you have written, reading from it I picked up alot from it. Thank you especially for the immuno and anat pointers you have mentioned. I hope and pray that you get a really high score. Although I must confess that after reading what you wrote, I felt my heart rate increase and abit anxious too....
Your hard work, determination and courage that you gave to this exam is examplary to all of us.
Enjoy you break, your hard earned break... and fly like a bird... free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! finally!!!

FIRST TIME FAILURE I GUESS..
honestly last time I had the speed problem and this time I made sure I do that part well.try to meet targets in the alloted time.like do q bank in timed mode,do your readings in timed mode..like in one hour I have to finish this chapter,try to do nbme on timed mode.this way your brain starts to think fast,read fast.Its just like an athlete getting ready day by day for the final day..always keep an eye on your watch.you will do fine.

yes it should be fine,,more than enough..But all those people who are thinking about going for the test with FA immunology...a suicide idea!!its a major subject.You cannot ignore it.

Malinda, which version of Kaplan did you use? I heard people saying immunology in kaplan 2005 has changed a lot.
