Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hello folks,

I passed. Got 92/223. Way way over what I was expecting. If you have any questions I will be more than happy to help to the best of my knowledge.

Did UW MCQs. I did 1000 Qs but I only read the explanation of about 100-150 questions and I think that was the worst mistake in my preparation. My average score at the end was 64-65%.

My exclusive source for the CCS was UW. I did all the cases twice. I also practiced the NBME software about 3 times.

I didn't read anything for the MCQ part apart from the explanation of 100-150 Qs of UW and the first 20 pages of First aid.

The exam was not easy. I thought I failed. I was guessing on about 30 questions on each block. I am suprized that I got sth in the 90s.

CCS cases are similar to those on the UW.

I think UW MCQ plus CCS with one small book ( many reccomend crush the boards) is a way to go. Do the UW MCQs repeatedly and read the explanatios thouroughly.

I did the NBME self assesment test and got 550 which correlates with my final result. 92 that is.

I studied for a month on and off. I can say I studied only for the CCS part. But I don't advice others to do so.

The exam(MCQS part) is all about continuous medical care in out patient setting.

I have taken the canadian MCCEE a month before step 3 and at that time I have gone through the Kaplan step 2 internal medicine book once. I have passed the MCCEE too.

I took step 2 a year and half ago but I think I have retained most of the knowledge I gained when preparing for the step 2. And I think that helped. My preparation for step 2ck a year and half ago was very thourough and extensive so I think I retained most of what I read at that time.

Feel free to ask any questions.

hi son64/anybody else who can answer my query,

congrats on your great score son 64!

i m giving my step 3 in a few days now and can't afford to take an NBME at this time. i am going to take the usmle cd test. can you tell me if the questions on the usmle cd are representative of the real exam in form and content? i mean how lengthy are the real exam questions and are there question clusters, like many questions on the same vignette like in the cd?

please reply soon, thanks, gollum

  #15

Hi Gollum,
Some of the Questions are really long and some are OK like step 2 CK
yes there are clusters of 3 to 4 vignette Questions,
Good Luck
Hope this helps

  #16

yes, in real step 3 there are very long questions, and normal questions. USMLE CD questions are a little bit easier and maybe a little bit shorter than real exam.

Hi Son64....first Congrats on ur Step 3! I just have a question for you regarding the MCCEE, is this the first part that you're referring to...the Evaluating Exam? or the next step....is it the MCCQE? I passed the EE on 2003 and haven't continued the steps. I decided to just go on with USMLE....I'm also about to start IM residency on July in Michigan. I'm a permanent resident here in US so I don't need those Canadian exams...but I still thought of finishing the steps, if i have time though.... do you know if how long is EE valid until u take the next step? Any suggestions for the MCCQE....review materials? thanks in advance....

Hi

I was wondering if you can guide me as I will be Landed Canadian Immigrant soon. So if I pass USMLEs and MCCEE will i be eligible for applying in residency match in CaRMS and NRMP both? Also, how often Canadian IMGs get the Statement of Need from Health Canada.

Thankyou.
