I just wanted to reiterate the point made in an earlier post. Please don't share the unmatched lists. Be kind to yourself. If you check the NRMP website, there were 2,467 legal unmatched non-US applicants as well as 921 US seniors, 712 US physicians, 23 Canadian students, 479 osteopaths, 38 5th pathway applicants, and 948 US IMGs in 2005 vying for limited unfilled positions. shocked Do you really want to add further to the competition by doling out to the estimated 4000 to 7000 illegal non-NRMP scramblers? rolling eyesIf you give it to one person he could easily reproduce this and give it to others or worse to a for-profit web service which could mass-produce it.disapproval Please play fair. It's our turn this year. If we match well this year, we can then help others properly when it's their turn in the succeeding years. cool

sorry to burst everyone's bubble.....but do u know how many IMG's would actually be able to get seats in scramble??? no u dont have a clue coz NRMP does't publish stats for scarmble psoitions obtained by IMG's or so...do u know lot of IMG candidates would still be without a position even after scramble is over,..u guys think its piece of cake to go through scramble..right?.,,everything will turn better...ask from people who have gone through this process....only a handfull of lucky applicants would b able to get the spot that too some of them would end up at programs they would have never applied to in the first place...Deans for AMG's personally call PD's on their personal phones once they find out that their candidates did't match...we all guys would b trying out the phone numbers n fax numbers provided by NRMP which would already be clogged by these so called scramble services...no one would report that thing to NRMP...is't taking help of professional services illegal? coz NRMP says that dont take help of these services as these r the people who clog up network for everyone.....if one posts list of unfilled seats over on the net ..it ain't gonna increase or decrease anyone's chance....who cares i mean if i had to scarmble i wont have time to look at forums anyway..coz i would be busy calling n faxing....play fair? who said this whole match process was fair?..people get fake USCE or real USCE with contacts but if u go ask hospitals they wont let u in but at the same time programs have this requirement of USCE....i don't give a dead rat's azz wat anyone does on net..

Ninja, you've not taken the post in a positive manner. And yes, NRMP does keep an account of positions going into the scramble. If AMGs deans are helpful in getting scramble, how does that break the NRMP rules and considered illegal? And no, NRMP does not stop anyone using the scramble services not everyone who uses the service gets a spot! Not everyone who uses the scramble service is illegal pareticipant most of them are NRMP registered. Maybe in the future its best that scramble applicants need to show proof that they are NRMP registered.

And yes you're right, many who scramble will eventually go unmatched, which brings the point miracleseeker said, why make it even worse by distributing the list to more people who aren't registered with NRMP......its already a nightmare anyway!

Veer-Zara..I did take the post in positive manner ..its just that any one who states the facts always gets harsh criticism for it..By stats I meant if there is any data on NRMP website about positions secured by IMG's in scramble??..if there is then provide me with the link n pardon my ignorance for that.....I did't say that it is illegal for deans to contact PD's....wat is illegal is scramble services...I can't find that on NRMP website but if u call NRMP they will tell u its illegal.... I'll quote here something from NRMP website:-

"5. A medical school official informs a previous graduate of his/her match results prior to official release by the NRMP at 1:00 pm eastern time on Thursday of Match Week. Match outcome information accessed by medical schools through the Match Site is confidential. Medical schools must safeguard this information in accordance with the Schedule of Dates set forth by the NRMP. "

I could't find the thread on NRMP website abt med schools having access to unfilled lists b4 NRMP posts it on their website like med schools have access to list of matched candidates...y do u think med schools get access to those lists b4 NRMP publishes it...so that rules can be broken,.,i know most med schoold must b abiding by NRMP rules but there is a lot that goes behind the curtains...n i think its unfair when deans can reach PD's on their personal phones where as we try their office phones ....aite..thats fair too i guess coz its survival of the fittest...and one more point..people with GC will have lot of advantage in scramble over people who need visa...

believe me it ain't gonna make whole lotta difference..i don't think there will b too many people who r not registered with NRMP..if we r not afraid of competition till now y should we b afraid of competition when it comes to scramble....the list will b published on www,scutwork.com few minutes after it is released on NRMP...
n who said life is fair ??

you both have a point. i know it's just probably wishful thinking on my part that everything will play out fairly for IMGs. i do know that AMGs have the advantage but I don't have anything against this. It's their country after all. As for scutwork, isn't it illegal for them to bring out the list during scrambletime? I think it would be more prudent for them in the interest of avoiding lawsuits to bring out the list on March 16 or afterwards. No, the NRMP doesn't have stats for those who don't go through NRMP. The estimate was actually from advertisements of scramble services and some forums.

anyway, thanks for your opinion, veer-zara and ninja. goodluck with the match! i really hope we don't have to scramble.

  #6

Yes you're right ninja but there is a difference being unfair and doing illegal. OK I thought you're referring to unfilled programs going into scramble.Yes there is no account of that. You're right in that aspect.

In regards to scutwork, they post the scramble list very much after the match and not during the scramble time! I too do not consider it unfair when an AMG is preferred over me, after in my home country I'm given preference to any outsider.

Whatever said and done, you all got the moral of the story- It is not our country and we are expected to compete for the left overs after prematch, match and unmatched american graduates. No offence taken, it is not our country. We all had our offers in our country and we opted not to take them. Was it a wise decision? Let us wait til March 13th or beyond.

  #8

sigh. sad all too true. oh well. good luck to us, dr. mamu.

  #9

Dr. mamu..I agree its not our country..so does that mean one should start behaving like a beggar here..wait for left overs?? I dont agree..people who act like they r desperate to get into any program n will beg PD's abt prematch or watever..they will be treated like beggars if they act like one here in US but if u live with dignity they will respect ya too..we all had our offers in our country so? wats ur point?..u came here coz u knew that this country is full of opportunities n u can make ur life better here than if u had stayed back in ur country..it is a symbiotic relationship..u work as doctor here n u get paid n in turn people benefit from ur expertise n they get better health care..no one is doing favor to anyone..don't let this feeling creep into ur mind that u r a in a different country n so u deserve left overs...life does't end here n life is not all about getting residency either..

i think what dr mamu meant to say about the leftover metaphor alludes more to the positions remaining during scramble time. realistically, it's an uneven playing field. we are the new kids on the block and have to respect the old players and abide by their rules. but when we're in the field already, there's really no stopping us from asserting ourselves and conquering. cool

  #11

i agree wid chivasregal...the country has positions for img's cuz they need more doctors not becuz they wanna do a favor to anyone.and anyone who gets a position has to prove themselves n work very hard n produce results.fair enuff they prefer their own grads n y shouldnt they.So plz dont feel so bad abt not having enuff opportunity.even in ure own country u have entrance n top rank ppl get better opportunities so u have to work hard n u most definitely deserve what u get in return.

  #12

Do you feel as a foreign here in US? Open your eyes, you are souranded by imigrants. What is the percentage of Americans ( with 100% USA origin) in US medical school? Just because parents or grandparents of an AMG chose to immigrate earlier should i feel inferior or lose my dignity accepting whatever "old players" offer me, NEVER. I am here for 2 reasons: I need them and They need me (i hope so - see on march13th) if any of this two didn't happened i wouldn't be here.

  #13

Wow, I can't believe how long this thread has grown. Anyway, the whole point about posting this message is to assert one's rights just in case things don't turn out well on March 13. It's not about being wimpy. It's staking your claim. That's the battleplan, folks! cool

  #14

I think its just the tension of the impending match results thats makin us all think negatively. Guys whats important is that if a person is so desperate that he is willing to go through the post match and not for his own reasons go through match, or God forbid doesnt get matched then I am pretty damn sure he might have paid the fee for NRMP registration, so it really doesnt matter if anyone posts it or not. Plus whoever got the list wont have the time to post it.You know what i am sayin

GOOD LUCK GUYS JUST A FEW MORE DAYS

ppl think of philosophy when the bellies are full and the minds are free - anonymous

i think this is much ado about nothing. every1 gets the free list at scutwork within an hour. and also does any1 who is unmatched have time to give the list to the unmatched ppl - doesnt he have the sense to start applyin stat.. and also even if he does share it with his wife/significant other then its his wish.. the guys who are gonna match - almost all of the ppl who have posted here dont care a damn now will be able to see the unfilled positions list after they see that they have matched..

It seems the list at scutwork has shut down the rumour is that NRMP has instructed them to do so.

  #17

you're right. there's no unfilled list anymore at scutwork. see, miracles do happen amidst this pessimistic world.wink

  #18

I think everybody registered with NRMP-receive this e-mail(if not, check your bulk message)

..........The List of Unfilled Programs will be available to all unmatched
applicants by
email and on the web beginning at noon on Tuesday, March 14th. A pdf
file of
the list (approximately 250 KB) will be emailed to those applicants
beginning
at noon......................

our discussion about unmached list is fruitless, but I am very happy that a new thread was open and i have something to fill my time till monday noon.

well, i guess we're all bored. hopefully, i match and just made a moot point for myself. however, never underestimate the impact of this message to some poor soul who finds himself or herself unmatched on March 14. Remember copying and pasting on the net takes just a few clicks and doesn't require much thought especially for the lucky scrambler who gets a job in the first few hours. hopefully the message creeps in as one is about to press the mouse button and say, "nah, not worth it. i'll just go out and celebrate. whoohoo!"

here's to you, vai! may you fight boredom and may you never experience the drama and twisted excitement that is the scramble. cheers.cool

the truth is i really didn't think about this issue much until i saw the posts about unfilled lists from this forum. and when i saw myself in a possible scrambling dilemma, i empathized and embraced the cause. thank god i matched. after that this seemed trivial until i learned that some registered friends who i know have really good potential as doctors didn't match and i feel validated somewhat that i made the post. i really want to help them out by protecting them. it's really a numbers game.

good luck registered scramblers!
