HI guys! this is my first post. Glad to be a part of the usmle success team!!
I'm having some problems w/ hematology. I am using both the pass program lectures and goljan lectues. The problems I am having are the following:
1/ Microcytic Hypochromic anemias : Pass Program has listed SCA and Hb-c disease under this... But goljan has listed SCA as normocytic with corrected retic. count >3%... which is correct and why?
2/ Microcytic HYPERchromic Anemia : pass program has listed congenital spherocytosis under this... and Goljan has listed it as normocytic w/ corrected retic count >3%....
If someone would be kind enough to help me with the classification of anemias... this is an area i really need to work on.

...anyone care to shine some light on my question....
... see I am having trouble grasping this b/c for cong. spherocytosis for ex. i know that it has increased MCHC. So i guess, that's why it could be classified as 'hyperchromatic'. BUT I guess I dont' know is if the MCV IS NORMAL OR DECREASED??
... And also the same applies for SCA, is the MCV NORMAL OR DECREASED, and why.
