HI guys! this is my first post. Glad to be a part of the usmle success team!! I'm having some problems w/ hematology. I am using both the pass program lectures and goljan lectues. The problems I am having are the following: 1/ Microcytic Hypochromic anemias : Pass Program has listed SCA and Hb-c disease under this... But goljan has listed SCA as normocytic with corrected retic. count >3%... which is correct and why? 2/ Microcytic HYPERchromic Anemia : pass program has listed congenital spherocytosis under this... and Goljan has listed it as normocytic w/ corrected retic count >3%.... If someone would be kind enough to help me with the classification of anemias... this is an area i really need to work on. Thank you.

...anyone care to shine some light on my question.... ... see I am having trouble grasping this b/c for cong. spherocytosis for ex. i know that it has increased MCHC. So i guess, that's why it could be classified as 'hyperchromatic'. BUT I guess I dont' know is if the MCV IS NORMAL OR DECREASED?? ... And also the same applies for SCA, is the MCV NORMAL OR DECREASED, and why. thank you to all those who reply! happy studying guys!
