Well guys this question actaully belongs to the Step3 forum but since not many people visit there than here so I think I am justified in writing here.

Well my question is- I have scheduled my step 3 for the 15 and 16 march. I know that the results of the match would be out on the 13th. But since the match is highly unpredictable I wanted to know if I am doing the right thing by scheduling my exam on these days and God forbid if I dont match then do I have enough time for post match scramble?

Thanks for your input. GL to all.

well if u r confident u will match its ok but if u have any doubts then maybe not cuz if God forbid u dont match u will b v distracted n then will have to arrange for scramble .just to be safe.

Oh course thats a possibility but I was thinking that if I dont match then I wouldnt be in any sort of hurru to take my step3 anyways so i would get my exam rescheduled then. Anyways thanks for your answer.

don't forget that u have to reschedule ur step 3 dates 5 business days prior.if match will be announced on 13th and u decide to postpone ur exam...u'll be paying fees.

i was doubtful about this thing myself so i scheduled my exam for 20,21 march.it's slightly late but i'll be clear about the match situation by then.

My only concern would be if you are looking for an H1B visa - which I will assume you are because you are taking step 3. How long does it take for results to come in? Will you have enough time to get your results, apply for a license, apply for the visa and start on July 1??

Not trying to bring you down, just trying to be realistic from a program's point of view. Hospitals need the intern class to be on time because of the patients in the hospital.

Good luck!

So you think BBB that 15, 16 is late?

ria...it varies from one prog to anther.some programs need ur step 3 result by match time while others r willing to wait till april.u will have to talk to the PD of the program where u match.

even if mid march is late...there's nothing much u can do now...but to take the exam on that date and donot postpone it any further.rememeber that u need to pass the exam and that requires good prep.

Just another question, when does one start faxing and calling the programs, if one doesnt match? I mean are we given the unfilled positions list on the 13th march itself or when is the earliest we can start with the scramble. This whole thing is a bit too confusing.....thanks for the reply.

Noon 14th. Its illegal to contact programs before that.

"Unmatched applicants may begin contacting punfilled programs at 12:00 noon eastern time."

"Any contact between programs and unmatched applicants (or their designees) prior to 12:00 noon eatern time Tuesday, March 14, 2006, is a violation of the Match Participation Agreement. Contact between programs and matched applicants prior to the general announcmenet of the 2006 Match results at 1:00 p.m. eastern time Thursday, March 16, 2006, also is a violation of the Match Participation Agreement."
