X linked recessive.Needs two Xs ????why is that male gets one X and gets the disease and female with one X does not???what is the basics here guys..any kind soul.take a few minutes out to help me understand.

hi malinda... X linked recessive means you must have 2 X chromosomes carrying the disease for a female to have that disease phenotypically as in every female one X gets inactivated and becomes a barr body so if one of the X chromosomes is normal ..she becomes a carrier ( unless its skewed X chromosome) ..but as male has just one X chromosome and so that has to be expressed as X and Y in a male is expressed codominantly and if that is carrying the disease causing gene then he will be affected..so X linked always affects men ...hope this helps...GL
