A 65-year-old man presents with a productive cough and difficulty breathing. His sputum culture is positive for

encapsulated gram-positive cocci, which are often seen in pairs. The patient's dyspnea is primarily due to which

i would go with E....in pneumonia there will be a problem with diffusion

  #7

yes E.pneumonias will produce mucous in the smaller airways that will interfere with diffusion.I thought it should be E as any mucous in airway should increase its resistanceconfused

I feel B should be better option...Im bumping it up to see what our contemporaries thinkwink

B... in pneumonia we have V/Q mismatch, I think due to decrease in ventilation caused by the inflammation.

I also think it is mostly due to decreased ventilation. Pnumonia causes consolidatio an so decrease ventilation.

  #12

either A or B
but I d tend to say b
oldie but goodie !
