just tried the oasis trick and could not believe it let me reapply!!!sad i just dont know what to do anymore. i thought my exam was ok, was getting 65-75% in usmleworld and 75% in kaplan q-book. my question is is there any point in taking the exam again.

I am an old graduate from India (graduated in 2001). failed step 1 first time, got 76 the second time. passed step2 cs first time. have a masters in molecular biology and one publication. now failed step 2 ck. is there honestly any point in even trying again? will really appreciate honest answers from anyone. as u can imagine, life's looking very bleak right now.

Dont even know whether I will be able to work in India or not anymore. Any comments?

oasis does not let reapply= u passed (confirmed)

oasis let u reapply= u failed/ OR your result has not been prepared&sent yet. (so reapplyin does not confirm anything).

hi hopdoc...i am an old graduate too...way back in 1998...i started this late but i'll try and finish it...you have come this far....got thru with 2 steps and now only one more remains...give it another shot..."remember you dont lose if you fail , you lose because you quit"...these inspirational quotes might sometimes mean nothing but if you think of the many people who are sucessful out there they have gone thru all this too...so you are gonna make it too...just keep trying and give the exam again...

as for the practical part of how difficult will it be to get into residency after trials , i frankly dont know much about it so dont want to judge anything wrong. if i do happen to talk to someone and if i get any info i'll pass it on to you. if someone knows about how difficult residency becomes after a trial pls do post it.

dont get disheartened. give the exam again.

Study again.. If you got 76 in step 1 then think of the positive side, you're given the chance to score much higher in step 2 next time. Don't lose hope..

Thank you so much for all your kind words and support. I have to really sit and think carefully about my options now. The strange thing is that Im not at all confident that I will do well if I take the exam again...cos I thought based on my UW scores that even if I didnt get above 90 I would atleast definitely pass, maybe score atleast above 85. I still am in shock. Waiting to get the result by mail now.

Thanks again everyone. If anyone has any suggestions I would be very happy to hear them. Good luck to all of you and thank you achilles. I hope all of you do very well.

did you do nbme?

  #9

no i didnt do nbme. only qs i did were UW, Q-book and the USMLE CD. Maybe I didnt study enough, I dont know!!! I really honestly thought I did. shaking head I took Kaplan classes as well. Dont know what to do now....

to hopedoc,

been reading this forum for a while, and found out kaplan may not be suitable for step 2 ck??

when u study exclusively from kaplan lecture notes, do u feel the content of kaplan are right on target in terms of making oneself prepared for step 2ck? seems to me that they designer of usmle purposely avoids any pattern of reviews out there in the market..

thanks for ur response

I dont want to give you false hopes

but i was in a similar situation as yours that damn oasis trick failed me

yet i passed got 89

so it not a 100% hope that helps

panzerkrieg, we r 2 students for whom oasis went wrong.hopdoc its better to fail the exam rather than passing with a score in 70s. try hard to get more than 90 this time.ALL THE BEST.

hey everyone,

finally got my result and have failed for sure. its great u guys that the oasis trick went wrong for u 2smiling face maybe ur right...maybe i can do better next time. back to studying for me now....maybe i should get blueprint for obs/gynae. are kaplan notes good for cardiology? that was the area in which i did really badly.

yes dude it is much better to fail than get a 76

take some time off .....then hit it hard in 4-5months

kaplan notes are okay for cardiology but try to generalize in cardio (esp. valvular diseases) and try to revise the patophysiology as well cuz the concepts get tested again and again

and believe it or not I had a hard time remembering that in Rsided CHF lungs are clear
