My question is not for this forum, but I figured there are more people here, so I just post it for your opinions. Thanks in advance. The case scenario: 1. my wife, 1998 graduate, green card, now work in a pharm company with income between $100,000 - 120,000. 2. She loves her job, but she feels she has no potential with her job any more (a bit ambitious, hehe, ). 3. So she is thinking about going through the whole residency process here to accomplish something that has always been somewhere deep in her mind. 4. Pros: self-accomplishment; she can work part-time later on to spend more time with my two sons with similar income; 5. Cons: have to struggle for 4-5 years to get there; money loss ~ $250-300,000 during this period (although money is not a major concern here, it is always a factor). 6. Some more background. Although she did not take USMLEs yet, I am pretty sure she will get 95/95 or something like that. I am going to anesthesiology program at Mayo clinic (MN) or equivalent institution this year. And I think with my connection, I may help her to get into a decent aneshesiology program as long as she can get a good score (I am an IMG, too. But I get along well with almost everyone I met). So, what do you think? Is it worth it? Thanks for your inputs.

Thank you very much for your quick response, Drkill. I totally agree with you that eventually it is our call. We have discussed about this for a few months, and have not reached a conclusion yet. I guess the problem is either way is a good choice. It is just like the ROL: when we struggle between two or three choices, it means that there is really no bad choice there, either one will be just fine. But we still try our best to figure out THE BEST choice for us (I guess only God knows). Sometimes I just feel that we torture ourselves with something that does not deserve so much of our energy at all, but we still fell into the trap voluntarily and repeatedly. LOL. God help us! Still, thanks for your input!

Don you think 120,000$ should make you feel better than a 3 year struggle in a residency programme? LOL Just kidding, take a good decision.

well it depends how badly your wife wants to do anaesthesiology. You mentioned the pros are 'to spend more time with the 2 children'......if anything she would more busy then and will eb spending less time. I don;t know about income but US100,000-120,000 isn't low and 3-4 years from now I'm sure she'll see an increment in her pay scale as she climbs the corpoirate ladder......dont u think so? I have to agree with Dr.Kill, its upto your wife to decide what she wants to do and what she is happy doing.
