I think you better plan to retake the exam as soon as possible ,you still have time..but If your score would not be ready in time ( or you failed again), you either need to accept J visa or wait for next year Match.

Thanks Laleh56..so u mean...without Step 3 pass...no chance of any H1 residencies..irrespective of fields..rite?

that's right. You should've passed step 3 by this time, now you can only have a J1 visa for this year, no matter what residency you applied.

Step 3 is a requirement for the H1B visa. No step 3 results, no H1B visa - only J1.
It's the INS (Homeland Security) regulations, not residency programs.

thanks..appreciate it...Do u know if I can try for J1 postion even if I originally had not applied for it in my eras application..also in case I do get a J1 position, can I reject it & try for H1 position next year?
Sorry for so many questions...I just dont know so many ppl in US.

yes, you can aspirate to a J1 visa, i think you´re talking about the scramble. Yes, you can. But if you get a position on a J1 visa and you reject it, that WILL NOT BE GOOD buddy, if you apply you must be ready to accept for a position in whatever hospital you are applying, and in your case that would be with a J1 visa this year.

hi, i didn't apply for step 3 this year. already missed the deadline. if i get an residency position offer and this hospital offer both j1 and h1, can i still take step 3 early next year and meet the dealine for h1 application? when will the deadline for h1 application for 2007 july residency? any answer and advice? thanks a lot.

Every program is going to have their own requirements on when you have to have your step 3 results for this coming July.
