In Kaplan it says:
Mediatiors that remove the chronic state of vasoconstriction are probably VIP and or NO. Ach may also be involved.

(What is meant by: "chronic state of vasoconstriction"? -Are the arteries normally vasoconstricted?)

Also everyone knows that simple mnemonic Point and Shoot, right?
(PANS for Errection and Symp for Emission)

-Well I just want to make clear the difference between "Emission" and "Ejaculation"
-Are both mediated by Sympathetic? or is emission Symp. only and Ejaculation is by somatic motor efferents?

Emission is the emission of the semen into the urethera?

Ejaculation is the process by which it is delivered outside-some somatic control.

Not sure...sounds like I may be right.

hi guys. I just copied this from another post inthis forum for clarifictaion.

1)Parasympathetic long word makes it longer -Erection (vessels dilate in
ischiocavernous sinuses for starters)

2)Movement of semen to ejaculatory ducts--(flight flight type-Sympathetic)
This is emission

3)Rhythmic contractions of bulbospongiosus and ischiocavernosus (this is relatively new info)--somatic motor efferents of S2,S3,S4. This is ejaculation

i believe mjl posted it initially. hope it makes things clear.

I think thats accurate.
Thanks. smiling face

To add,During ejaculation there is also sympathetic innervation which ensures closure of the internal sphinctor.

the somatic innervation powers up the semen for final ejaculation when it reaches the bulbous urethra via the contraction of bulbospongiosis which surrounds this part of the urethra ,hence, squeezes it just like we squeeze our tooth paste out.

Yes, sympathetic is also involved in ejaculation because there are alpha 1 receptors on the vas deferens which promote ejaculation.

Thanks everyone. smiling face
