First of all metrohealth is the main hospital for ccf and cwru students for medicine clerkships, though most education is also done in university hospitals and campus,CCF is now affiliated to CWRU!!

Now metrohealth is a health system which has charm of its own and the dedicted teaching which goes onn for 3-4 hours everyday is phenomenal and Dr.Connors the chief of medicine was telling me that currently about 75% of residents are involved in research and he wants it to go right upto 100%,he looked to be a visionary with the sole mission of making metro a better place to train in every aspect.

I heard that 80 hrs/wk rule is never flouted and it is one of the most benign programmes in USA,with emphasis on education.

Metrohealth treats medicare patients as well as insured lot,so lots of pathology to see!!,and they have a fairly newly built Remmelkamph research centre which pioneers in both basic sciences research and clinical research, but only negative thing is they prefer greencards and us grads even in research field!!!!

The general prefrence of candidates selected to interview was as follows-amgs', IMG with greencard or citizenships,IMGS' with UK experience, and other imgs!!!

Gives some prematches!!but last year some H1B visa candidates got delayed and therefore this year they r restricting that type of visa, though i was told most with step-3 results by match shud get it.

Three interviews in a day, started with an introduction by programme director and we were given nice folders and pens for us to take down some notes in case is needed(I was told he tells same stor every interview day and it has remained unchanged for few years now)

Started my first interview with chairman of medicine who was a pleasent personality,he said for someone coming from UK you have excellent letters of reccomendation and appreciated my research work,he also told me, that currently about 75% of residents are into research and he wants to push it up to 100%. was a co-ordial interview and he was explaining tht metro is main teaching hospital for case students.

Next up was chairmans rounds, they were discussing a case which was not all that stimulating, but residents seemed very learned and they seemd a happy bunch, with regular education evryday and tolerable workload, some were lamenting how cold it is in cleveland etc... which was true,it snows 4-6 months a year here and subzero temperatures.

Next up was interview with associate director who is a cardiologist from lebanon, she was very nice and it went well, more of general discussion.

Next was another associated programme director,ID(Dr.Nicola Helm) specialist very friendly and warm. no medical questiones asked.

Tour of hospital by chief residents, which was also nice.main thing in the hospital tour which impressed me was that they have nice facilities, all up to date fantastic facility and cleanly kept hospital, residents get a token of 350 dollors to spend in canteen every 6 months,4 weeks holiday evry year, which comes fixed in a rota.

At the end an exit interview by chairman highlighting why programme is so unique.

Pros:all in all a very good programme, with good fellowship oportunities, nice people, but most often img's don't get what fellowship they want!!!!.

positive aspects: great hospital and great training,Solid university backup. good research going on.

Negatives: lack of fellowships for img's if u want research position u need atleast a greencard. very cold and snows 4-6 months a year. not better than cleveland clinic/cwru univ hospitals.

I will try and post about CWRU soon if possible.

Hope this helps GL.
