According to Kaplan, during Iodine deficiency, the thyroid produces more T3 than T4 (normally T4 is more abundant)... Anyone know why this is?

T4 is made with coupling of 2 diiodotyrosines T3 is made with coupling of 1 di-iodotyrosine and 1 MONO-iodotyrosine. So in Iodine deficiency, the body just makes more T3 b/c it requires one less iodine.

Ok, so since there is an iodine deficiency, there will be more MIT made than DIT, so more likely for MIT and DIT to pair making T3?
