Curious to know if someone with scores in the 85-90 range got interview calls in IM. This is specifically for people who did not have USCE and needed a H1/J1.

I didn't get any calls in IM with these criteria.

come on guys, PLEASE answer to this thread. It would be very interesting. I thought one could get IM with these criteria. If you add to them: graduation no more than 3-5 years ago. Why canīt you get any interview?. IM is supposed to be easier than other residencies.

Any reply???

no, i meant IM is easier than derma, ortho, plastics (integrated prog), ENT, ophthalmo. That's what i meant.

There is no doubt that fm is easier than im in the same institute. You are expected to get at least 5-6 interviews with the abive criteria-85, old graduate, visa, no USCE. Things were very different this year because of the large number of applicants this. So many people who got 90 and above and needed visa ended up getting 4-5 interviews. The main reason I suppose is that large number of people who applied last year did not make in the residency because there was a marked delay in the csa. This backlog has made the condition very worse this year. Hope it gets corrected next year. If large number of people remain unmatched this year, the backlog may be taked to next year and make things difficult next year too. Another thing this year is a liberal issue of tourist visa this year. So the number of people who were able to give csa increased markedly this year. This also contributed to large number applicants, Hope the damage is corrected next year.

I think your point about last year's applicants increasing this year's pool makes a lot of sense. It is also true that it if that was the case then it could take a couple of years to correct the situation.

I guess after NRMP releases the stats for this match, we'll get to know the number of IM applicants this year.

  #13

100 places altogether

  #14

so skdoc what have u decided?
scramble ?

  #15

skdoc I think it's very strange that you didn't get any iv.May be you applied to the wrong places, because you are a very good candiate fresh grad and good score,so what went wrong with you ?

  #16

skdoc did u clear ur exams in the first attempt. if so u shud receive some interviews as u have applied early and scores r gud.

  #17

Skdoc hang on there is hope for you in the scramble, but start preparing for it from now. try to get some USCE before the match,so you can mention it on the scramble day.

Yes the only option left for me is scramble now.
However I have my step 3 in the first week of march so couldnt start any prep for scramble.

Vamsi 2004,I have completed all my exams in the first attempt.
I dont know whether I have applied in the right places or not.My negative points are I dont have any USCE and I need h1.Main negative point -no luck at allsmiling face.It is quite depressing not to have even a single interview.

thanks for the advice,I will surely try for USCE before scramble though it is not easy.
Good luck to all of u

I have heard people with 87/89 need h1 with few USCE like observership having 17 interviews.

I couldnt believe this...may be the person is exaggerating the facts.

Hi rashmi_k3,
All I wrote about me is real,my scores are 83,89,/CS passed/2003 graduate and awaiting step 3 results.I dont have USCE and I need a H1.At this point I was worrying why I didnt get even a single interview.I had gone thro a period of depression during this interview season.I thought my scores are not good enough and now comments like yours hurt again and again.
I am trying to console myself and get ready for the next match.
I am not defending myself but when u talk but others be very careful.
Dont hurt them
Good luck to u.

I am extremely sorry skdoc, if i have hurt U.

I neaver meant to do that.

I was just pointin out the fact that its still possible to get 17 interviews with your credentials.

Something might have gone wrong with you this time, but who knows next match could be your's.

God bless you and have plenty of good lucks for next match.
