Hello Omnavashivaya

I'm a female mexican IMG and as far as I know, the fifth pathway it's a graduation process that it's only for some students of a certain medical school outside the united states; I can tell you a little more about it because back in my medical school there's a fifth patway for those students that are US citizents (born or naturalized) studying outside their country (USA).

You'll see...the diference between the fifth patway (FP) and the regular way to become a doctor it's that in the FP you can choose and get into an internship in a hospital from the US and you can also forget about doing a social service (that in the case of a mexican IMG, he/she have to do for a whole year before become a doctor) That takes you less time to graduate plus the US medical experience that you need to practice in the US after your certification (ECFMG).

The above only works for those who are still in the first semester of the career... so If you still need to know more about it, below I post you the link of my university for a little more details. Hope that I could be helpful, greetings and Good luck !

people who are eligible for fifth pathway must have done undergraduate work at a US university of the quality necesary for entering med school here in the states. after completing the basic science and clinical years at your foreign school you don't do social service but instead finish at one of two hospitals in new york. in spite of what most people think, fifth pathway is NOT restricted to people from UAG. the reason is that most americans after graduating from a US college and who were not able to enter medical in the US for whatever reason decide to study in mexico and the major university they go to is UAG. remember you need to have had very high gpa in your undergraduate studies to be accepted
