What is the purpose of adhesion molecules, such as ICAM?

ICAMs are adhesions molecules called integrins.They are present on endothelium and they function tight adherence of neutrophils to the basement membrane of vessel during neutrophil chemotaxis.kaplan immunology has a complex table that frankly speaking I find too complicated.
