Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hi,

I am an IMG currently in Texas (Permanent Resident). I have passed my USMLE step 1 and my score on that exam is 84/206. I'm currently preparing for step 2 and have just started my research on different programs.
My question is, does it really worth it to go through all the application problems to get the PTAL (used to be known as California Letter)? I mean, are there enough programs in California which I may have a chance to get a residency? Because as you know there are too many applications and there are fees and other issues with this letter. Does my USMLE 1 score satisfies California program directors to give me an interview (I know they also need the step two)?

The reason that I'm asking is that I have a very low budget and I can't spend on something that has no or may be very low chance for me. I have already paid enough to Kaplan and I still have to pay for the Step 2 CS and Match and other stuff.

Is there any other charges other than the initial $505?

Any suggestion is helpful.

Thank you.

well after you get your licence yu have to again pay 600$ my friend,Think about it.Regarding residency positions in California,There are few hospitals compared to Northeast. But If yu have above avge scores and good overall performance and prior clinical experience in US/UK prefered. But regarding the licence it also varies from hospital to hospital in california. Some hospitals require only your application for PTAL in their records at the time of applying for the programs.

when should one start applying?

Hi,is ECFMG certification needed before we apply for PTAL,or can we go ahead and apply for it with USMLE step 1and 2CK scores.

You can go ahead and apply, but they need your ECFMG certification to complete your process. They will send you a letter when they are ready to get your ECFMG. This process takes few months, so if you need PTAL, start thte process ASAP.

Do you require both step 1 and step 2 ck scores to apply? or Can you apply with just step 1 score?

You can apply with just step 1

you can apply with nothing, doesnt matter,ur application will not be complete and you wont receive your PTAl unless its complete.
Also i learned today that you can only apply for 3 consequtive yrs.and once you get into residency u ned to update them through a form they send ,also within 2 yrs of completion of ur residency u need to apply for physician's lisence, otherwise ur file will be cclosed and u'll have to go throught he same hassel again.
