In Somatization disorder, pt has many symptoms including symptoms from several systems (I believe it is 4 pain sx, 2 GI sx, 1 sexual sx, and 1 pseudoneurologic sx required for diagnosis in DSM IV). In hypochondriasis the pt is just overly concered with their health or a single imagined illness. Usually there is a specific illness that the pt is sure that they have despite negative workup. Hope this helps.

somatization is many symptoms many organs. negative workup. hypochondriasis patient gives u the diagnosis "i have headache, i know i have brain cancer".exaggerated concern about a symptom.
