Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hello! I had been visiting this forum during my preparation for step 2 and I found it very helpfull. Now I'd like to write my experience hoping that someone may find it useful. I took the test on December and the score is 237/96. I am an IMG and I had been studying for about 4 m without working but also without perfect english so in the beginning I couldn't study very quicqly. As about the books: I used Blueprints for Psych and Gyn, for ped I did from nms the champters that I felt I knew the least and for the rest(medicine ect) I used FA and the QB.I also found usefull Blueprints clinical case in emergency. I did only UsmleWold which I think is a must. When you use aQB the most important things are 1 to find a way to manage with time2 to understand why the correct answer is correct and 3 to READ all the explanations. I learned a lot from the explanations so I believe that it is not worth to spent much time in books. My score in the Qb was 59%.

As about the test: the test wasnt so difficult or long. Some vignettes were long but not the majority. I think I had quite a lot of q in Psych, Neuro, Ped, surgery and drugs, some ped ortho, mine not many gyn. Many of the High Yield topics in the Qb were there. For the q I wasn't sure I don't know if I could have studied them somewhere.

I believe the most imporant in preparation is to focus on your weak areas( I manage to improve most of them and the ones that I didn't,they appeared as lower performance in the exam). Now i am preparing for step 1 and cs. But by reading in forums I feel little disappointed, the scores seem to have lost their value.

GL to everyone!

hi, angy, congratulations first! btw, do you think we need remember the details for treatment, for example, the dosage of different drugs, the brand name of the drugs, or just remember the principles of the treatment? thanx!

Hismiling face and thank you...Sorry for the delay.. I really don't think you should know these details, just the chemical names, I mean as you already know they dont tell ie the pt takes an antiarrythmic but amiodarone, which first line which second etc

Congratulations Angy smiling face

I am preparing for Step .Do you think First aid is a good review book? I am just following kaplan notes.Do u think its sufficient to get atleast 80-85%??

Thanks

Well.. I dont't know about Kaplan notes, I didn't have them .An American friend( and Amg) strongly recommended me FA . As I am not an old graduate(2004) I decided not to spent much time reading many review books. I only used Blueprints for Gyn and Pchy. For the rest what I did was to make notes from the Qbank's explanation and combine them whith first aid. I also found emergency champter in FA very good. I used to revise the first page of it( with medications and vitamines)almost every day.My opinion is to choose a qbank early in your study because with q you can evaluate how your study goes.
