hi
i am a new comer i am planning to take step 1 in april 2004
i have first aid and its highly recomended book for each subject but i dont have ucv books .
can anybody help me to buy ucv books and tell me
is those enough for exam
do they have lot different between 3rd &2nd editions

Don't buy ucv books, use your money for a better set of books like kaplan notes (plus goljan or BRS for pathology)

or

Other high graded books from FA different than ucv like BRS for path and physio, lippincot for biochem and pharm, HY for neuroanatomy, anatomy, embryo, etc

Good luck

thank you very much
i have books of your 2nd option
as exam is more clinically oriented those books does not give that much of clinical knowledge ;please tell me what should i buy or refer

Which exact books do you have right now?

hey dp -- i took the exam on nov 26 -- my best advice would be to not waste too much money on tooo many books that may not be sooo useful -- definately first aid - brs i found physio and biochem to be most helpful of the brses and gross anat brs is good if u read over the clinical considerations at the end of every chapter.. and i would say my most used books were the kaplan series for the 8 subjects -- i would totally recommend the video series by kaplan -- which is 800$ and they give you the books -- but if you decide not to do that -- you can buy kaplan books from me but i think the videoo lectures for kaplan were helpful in keeping me on trachk and they follow these books ... also goljian cds (abt 35 hrs of lecture) was very helpful just to listen to and get down major concepts... hope this helps.. good luck =)

hi guys
i have first aid, lipp- pharm & bio , brs- path & phy ,made ridiculous- micro , hi ye -anato , behav
tell me do i need to buy kaplan ;does it easy than above books
if so i like know the what books & video you have and the price

dp my advise is to stick to the books you already have and know them by heart, there is no point in buying more books or studying a subject from 2 or 3 books, many people pass and ace the exam with either the books you have or with kaplan so stick to them

Hi JaRyN,
You mentioned 8 Books set from Kaplan ? Everybody has different opinion about these Kaplan notes...so, I am little confused here ! Somebody gave me these books ( Lectures Notes ),here are the details-- (I AM WRITING MAIN AUTHOR'S NAME ONLY not contributors )
1) Anatomy ( 399 Pages ,Author is David Seiden,Ph.D. ),
2) Physiology (999 Pages,Author B.Dunn,Phd.),
3) Pathology ( 288 Pages,Author is John Barone,M.D.),
4) Pharmacology (604 Pages,Author is Anthony Trevor,Ph.D.),
5) Biochemistry ( 369Pages,Author is Barbara Hansen,Ph.D.),
6) Immunology ( 483 Pages,Author is Don Dunn ,Ph.D.)
7)Microbiology (802 Pages,Author is Louise Hawley,Ph.D.),And
8)Behavioral Science (782 Pages ,Author is Steven R.Daugherty,Ph.D.)
So,are these Kaplan Books/Notes/Review Sereies ...everybody talking about ?OR they are some different books ! I think these books are published in 2001 .
Now,I have one more Question...These are Lecture Notes ! Web-Prep Notes AND Center based Notes are different ? and will I need to join web prep course OR these notes are useless without vedio ?
I am really in great confusion.PLEASE HELP ME !!
ThankYou.

I was wondering about the pictures and slides on the exam:study with Kaplan study notes and Goljan review. Many people say there are a lot of pictures in the exam, but in those books there are not many. So do you think it's sufficient, or do I need more?

dp I don't understand if you are asking for sources of questions or what?, About gaining clinical knowledge besides reading during medschool and keeping yourself updated by reading medical literature the only way is by practicing medicine daily with patients
