1) 3 weeks, about 3 hours a day, double on the weekends. I was working in school, so couldnt do more than that

2) usmleworld, first aid. also watched some online physical exam videos, and the post by digitaldoc is pretty good.

3) didnt join any course

4) Studied with non-medical friends. they played the part of the patient, practised almost all the cases in first aid, with the proper timing and physical exam etc.

Believe me, this exam isnt difficult. What you mainly need to do is PRACTICE. doesnt matter who u practice with, but make sure u practice so much that u just flow from one part of the patient encounter to the other. things like asking about smoking/alcohol/sexual history etc and advice about lifestyle changes should become second nature. this isnt a test about how good you are at diagnosing patients...all cases are very standard ones....make sure u ask the right qs and are SUPER friendly with the patients. be sure to drape properly, ask if they are comfy, ask if u should dim the lights if u get a migraine case, ask if they have any qs, summarise ur findings etcetc. basically never ever stop talking, even during the physical exam. remember, u are pretty much playing a part too. this is just a test of how well u can communicate with the patient and if u cover all the relevant points.

first aid is excellent and so is uw.

good luck.

hi i passed, studied for 13 days, gave it after my ck, did usmleworld only and read the forums about peoples experiences..Studied for about 3 hours a day, did about 6-8 hours the day before the test...had my husband and sisters help me by acting as the sp...So its all about practice, u have to have ur history down to pat, so that it feels natural coming out, wrote down all the nemonics on my sheet before going into anyones room,so even if i felt like i was missing something i just covered it up..got lots of interesting tips from the forums like, when asking about the sp's diet or smoking or drinking habits to counsel them there and then, so u dont forget it at the end...and even when doing the physical exam keep talking to ur pt,any thing u have forgotten to ask,u can continue asking,or make small talk with ur sp....i found they responded very well to that...Lots of other little pointers that i got from simply reading this forum.I didnt take any courses, and i think 2-3 weeks is more than enough time provided you have a good command on the english language.I gave my exam in philadelphia, the sps were great , the staff were friendly. On the over all a good experience.
