Hi.. I am still quite new to this as I decided to take the USMLE exams only recently when I started considering my career options after med school. Im now about to finish the last year of the medical school and Im still quite busy with the exams. Anyway I dont want to hurry with the process because I want to get a good position rather than a fast position. However I find the process quite complicated and I have some questions.. (thx for a very helpful blog post from digitaldoc). 1. Externships / Observerships .. how high are the expenses of these programs? How long are they 3 montsh 6 months 1 month? What are the general requirements (ie do they require some USMLE steps finished before you apply or anything like that?) Are they hard to find? 2. What is the value of LORs by western european attendings? 3. Does some previous non-US research/clinical experience help you with the match? 4. I am now 25, havent passed any USMLE step yet .. what are the chances I will get a good match say .. in Surgery when im like 27 28? Greets and thx for the reactions. Amir Zolal
